Battle of the nurseries! Rent me a house in the school catchment area. Paint my door by Friday!
Last Updated on : 24th February 2013
My primary school-aged son loves reading.
He’s spent enough of this summer in airport and railway bookshops to notice the blanket advertising for 50 Shades of Grey.
So last week, when his grandmother took him shopping for a treat, he innocently suggested 50 Shades of Grey. My elderly mother, also none the wiser, happily agreed.
Myself and Mr NappyValleyNet were preparing dinner when my son settled down at the kitchen table and started to read.
It’s been a while since I could describe my other half as “moving like a blur”, I honestly reckon he hasn’t shifted that fast in this millennium.
“What on earth are you reading?” he garbled, grabbing the book.
“A best-seller, it’s advertised EVERYWHERE, Nana bought it for me.”
We had our own little “Mastercard” moment later that evening.
“Cost of book bought for grandson: £7.99. Look on grandma’s face reading page 57? Priceless.”
