It’s beginning to feel a lot like Christmas….

Last Updated on : 11th December 2017

With less than a month til Christmas, you can feel your heart palpitations rising as you make your to-do list – well, do not panic! With well-stocked, beautifully curated independent shops brimming with gifts ideas your loved ones will be forever grateful for – from Northcote Road, Bellevue Road and Balham – you can solve all your present problems without leaving Nappy Valley.

 Made The Edit

Northcote Road’s newest shoe shop on the block offers an exclusive collection of flats, heels and boots you won’t find anywhere else. Owner Lizzie Darby has curated an edit of independent brands, showcasing Italian designs alongside her own, giving shoppers a large range to choose from that offers something different. We love the calf-hair, zebra-print flats and the knee-high grey suede boots. The party collection is in store now and, with limited-edition styles not to be found anywhere else on the high street, you can be sure to be the only one at the Christmas party in your festive footwear. There’s also a wonderful choice of stocking fillers, including cashmere accessories and beenies, so you can shop for others while you browse for yourself!

Be sure to pop in on 29 November between 10am-8pm for a day of exclusive discounts.

Amelies Follies

150516_paris_164_v2a2When it comes to making a woman feel good, a little bit of lingerie can go a long way. At Amelie’s Follies on Webbs Road, a wide range of nightwear, underwear, lingerie and swimwear ensures the perfect present is within your grasp. From PJs and negligees in pure cotton and silk, robes in luxe velvet or slinky satin, everyday or super-sexy, Catherine and her team have your needs covered.

Making shoppers comfortable is important as Catherine knows buying lingerie for a loved one isn’t always straightforward. She can tell a lot about bra size and suitable styles just from a picture on a phone, and some customers choose to keep customer profiles with their size and preferred styles making it easy for someone to treat them at Christmas. Gift vouchers and gift wrapping are available as well as a wonderful selection of stocking fillers (we love the cashmere bed socks, eye masks and sexy bedroom accessories from Aubade).

Pop in on 1-2 December for Small Business Saturday when you can enjoy 10% off everything full price while supporting your local independent retailers.

QT Toys

When it comes to Christmas shopping for kids, it has to be QT Toys – a Northcote Road institution! Now in its 34th year, Joseph and his team continue to source a wide range of toys for all ages to inspire Santa’s little helpers (and parents!). Traditional wooden toys, such as Brio train sets for toddlers, are always popular, but QT offer the latest gadgets and games kids want too. From Lego Ninjago to Paw Patrol, Hatchimals to VTech Switch & Go Dinos, there’s no shortage of ideas under this roof. Our Generation dolls are flying off the shelves along with Lottie dolls, and firm favourites, such as Hot Wheels and arts and craft projects, are stocked too.

Want to get the kids moving on Christmas Day? Check out the Micro Scooters and skateboards on offer. If it’s a multi-generational game you want to play on Boxing Day, give Monopoly a miss this year and check out the extensive board game section. If the elves needs some stocking filler ideas, there’s slime and putty aplenty, as well as Top Trumps, bouncy balls and Hexbugs.

In the two weeks leading up to Christmas, QT Toys will be closing at the later time of 6pm in the week and will open on Sundays until 5pm as usual.

The Dessert Deli

DDMince PiesThe Dessert Deli was created by Laura Amos, a local Wandsworth resident & business owner. Laura previously worked in some of London’s most prestigious dining establishments, including working her way through the ranks to become Sous Pastry Chef at The Ivy, Head Pastry Chef at Le Caprice and working under Michelin starred chef Jean-Christophe Novelli. By the age of 26, Laura had gained priceless experience and saw a gap in the market for a unique, luxury dessert and cake brand, where ingredients and quality would be paramount – The Dessert Deli was born in 2008. Their ethos of using the very best ingredients, plenty of them and lovingly hand making everything sold, has led to their products being stocked in premium food halls over the years, including Selfridges, Harvey Nichols, Whole Foods Market and Fortnum & Mason, as well as supplying the London Olympics. Now a regular on Northcote Road Market every Saturday, her products are ‘Absolutely Amazing’. This season, you’ll find it hard to resist her Christmas cakes (voted one of the best in London by the Evening Standard), sensational mince pies and other festive products. Laura also offers baking and cake decorating classes and birthday parties alongside her special occasion and celebration cakes, gifts and hampers.

Enjoy The Dessert Deli Monday to Friday on UberEats & Deliveroo and every Saturday at Northcote Road market or at the kitchen on Lavender Hill (by appointment only). (07973282566)
