Thank you Joanne, thank you Bee! The house I was going to buy flooded and I'm not going to proceed, but once I've decided what on earth I'm going to do, I'll check out your recommendations! Elke

Compare my move are meant to be very good. I recently used them for some quotes for someone. We also recommend on our website. I've linked (hopefully!) to their quote form below which should be fairly easy and straight forward, you get 6 quotes from reputable people without having to keep giving everyone your details. Worth a go I think!

A friend of mine recommended http://www.strongmove.com/. She moved a 3-bedroom house and in her opinion the price was reasonable. She also said they did all the packing and unpacking. I can ask her for the exact price if you are still interested ;)

We used letsmovelondon (mark). http://www.removalslondongb.co.uk/

We only moved from alma rd to Killarney rd 2 yrs ago. We got marks number from my pal who used them when she moved to Barmouth rd.
He charged 50 quid per hour for a van and 2 men. This may have gone up.
He also offered packing and rented boxes but we didn't use that.
Very nice chaps, would use them again.

WAG Removals (Wayne Grey). Professional, affordable, punctual, helpful, friendly. I used them to move house last year, and they packed for me too. 07862 790838.

Try Illy James international. Brilliant and we got them on recommendation too. We only moved locally but their quote was at least a grand less than the next quote and they packed for us too. We had a 2 bed flat with a "4 bed house's worth" of contents ;-)

Trek Removals

www.trekremovals.com/‎

Moved from a three bed property in W9 to a six bed property in SW12. Two days move, one packing, other move plus disassembling and reassembling. Paid around £1500 all in (excluding parkings from both council, which could clock you to the tune of £300).

Very professional, quick and polite. Have used them twice in the last four years and never disappointed.

I've used Nick from Cavendish & Country (http://www.cavendishandcountry.com/contact/who-we-are/) and he/his team were great. I contacted them as I needed a few things moved into a room (big bed and a mattress that won't bend) after my sister used them to move her house.

Nick was super, he turned up with one guy, moved what I needed and it cost me £65 for the hour. That being said, he had just moved my sister from her flat in Wandsworth to her new house in Earlsfield. But nothing was broken, he was polite and so where his team.

Hope that helps.

good stuff - it sounds like you are getting some more realistic quotes.

Nick at Cavendish and Country seems to know what he is talking about. I am not sure how it works with the bigger firms, but it was quite reassuring for us that Nick kept quite a close eye on our whole removal process.

Good luck with the move!

It does seem odd.

At least you have other options and others are being more reasonable.

We got four quotes, and B&W were second-cheapest at the time.

Thank you MrsAmanda and Timefortea101, I have since had a quote from Nick of Cavendish and Country - about half the £2700 quoted by Burke & Wills! Nick extremely pleasant and reassuring. Move would be over *2* days. I have now had several more quotes - B&W's is more than double in every case.

B&W want to pack on Day 1, part unload on Day 2, overnight with truck, complete unloading on Day 3. None of the other firms has suggested this, I have less stuff than many and none of my white goods are moving! Since receiving other quotes I can't be bothered to engage with B&W as I think their quote is ridiculously high.

Yes, 6 hours driving but as long as the driver has a 45 minute break I believe it's okay. None of the other firms has suggested it is a problem.
