You're welcome!

Here is another link for rentals, just to give you an idea.
Levallois-Perret is also a nice place to look, right on the outskirt (tube and buses etc...).

Again, feel free to contact me if you decide to move. Happy to answer your questions (or help with lessons, why not?!).

Thanks so much for your reply. The links are really helpful.

I might be in touch for a few French lessons if we decide to accept!

Bonjour Balhamite!

How exciting!
I am a French mum from Paris and we've moved to 2 different countries since our children were born.

There are many English speaking families in Paris so, I would not worry about being isolated. Although, this might mean making some efforts at the beginning but there seems to be some natural solidarity once you are away from home.
I have just found a website for playgroups and there are more, I'm sure:

As far as areas similar to Balham, the outskirts or the western suburbs would compare. I would look at Montreuil (Eastern side of Paris) also. There are less parks and the city is less spread than London.
Paris is now the second most expensive city in the world, something to keep in mind when your husband negotiates his relocation...

As far as schools, children start when they are 3 and it's free (and great!). It's amazing how easy they can pick up a language and there might be in a class with other bilingual kids as there are many American and British families in Paris.
There are bilingual schools but I'm not familiar with them. However, I came across this site:
http://www.expatica.com/fr/education/hi ... 10469.html

I hope it helps! Any questions, feel free to write back.

A French tutor and mum in London!

Moving to Paris

Hello

I am looking for lots of advice please!

We are a British family and my husband has been offered a job in Paris, probably for a 1 to 2 year duration. We are just trying to weigh up whether to accept. We have 2 preschool children and would probably return home before my eldest starts in reception.

Just wondering how does living there compare to here? Sorry I know that is a very general question. I only speak very basic French and it is unlikely I would work while we were out there so i am a bit worried about being isolated. Are there similar types of playgroups/baby groups and classes as you find here?

What is the accommodation like and what are good areas to live in? are there some typical expat areas? Where is most like balham!!! i am also keen to look for an English speaking pre school for my 3 year old.

All very exciting but so much to think about so would really appreciate any thoughts

Thanks!
