Just to say we moved from just off Lavender Hill to Streatham last autumn and are really happy here. Much more affordable for us and very friendly, and we're very lucky to have a much bigger house and garden than we had before. We're between Streatham Hill and Tulse Hill which we find handy as there are trains into both Victoria and London Bridge, plus the Thameslink which goes straight to Blackfriars and St Pancras. Although a lot of people get to work by getting a bus to Brixton and picking up the Victoria line there.

My eldest is in a primary pre-school so I don't know much about day nurseries but several of the kids on our road go to Abacus which is just by Streatham Hill station and their parents seem very happy with it.

Good luck!

We are selling from Battersea and looked into Streatham. ..couldn't reconcile to the area so are now looking in Upper Tooting.
The prices are almost comparable now.

Forgot to mention, regarding areas, don't forget to look just past Streatham Common station - about a 12 minute walk tucked away is Furzedown, a wonderful area. Loads of families and lovely houses too. it's only a short bus ride , say 7 mins to Streatham high road and about 10 mins on bus to Tooting Broadway which has recently opened some great restaurants and bars .

We love Streatham too! We rented in Fulham before buying a house here 7 years ago.
Both my boys went to Cavendish Lodge Nursery, my eldest for 3 years prior to starting school and my youngest for 1 year. It is a wonderful nursery, I honestly do not think you could find a better one south of the river. Not only are the facilities and gardens lovely, the majority of their staff are very attentive. Their waiting list is long but now that they have Dove House across the road it moves much quicker.

Good luck with your move.

We moved from SW11 to Streatham last year and LOVE it here!!! The sense of community is brilliant and we have found it to be so friendly.

The Rookery on the Common is wonderful, if you haven't already paid it a visit do so!

Cavendish Lodge (on Lewin Road - very pretty street, lovely houses!) has a great reputation and from what I've heard is exceptional. As Jodie said, you do need to get your child's name down quite early.

They have recently pedestrianised a large area of Streatham Green and hold a little Farmer's Market there each weekend, which is lovely and rumour has it Bertie & Boo are going to open their next soft play on the High Road!!

Good luck with the move and feel free to PM me if you want to chat more.....

I love Streatham and it's diversity. The house prices are getting higher so I would buy asap.

Schools are great I've just moved my daughter to the primary on my road as I fear my youngest won't get in as they are going for Outstanding and people will be renting flats next door just to get their kids in. But pretty much all the schools are doing well and we have Dunraven which is suppose to be brilliant.

We have the commons as you mentioned with kite day and the dog show and also streatham food festival is coming up. Also we have 2 farmers markets.

Canvendish lodge is oversubscribed so you would need you name down now but most nursaries are good.

Lots of resturants and bars opening up and yes we are getting a soft play and a new cafe/soft play is in the pipeline.

We're all friendly over here and hope it stays that way :D

Looking to move to Streatham for a larger house. So far it sounds fab just a big step. Any info? tips to swing my move? I know its one of the top places to live in London for yuppies.

Great transport links, fab parks, festivals, schools are all getting great ofsted reports, bars and restaurants are opening up everywhere, heard there maybe softplay coming? Ice rink new leisure centre.

I will need a nursery for my youngest any info on Cavendish lodge? I know its been voted the best nursery in South London.

Best roads to live in?

Thanks
