Re: Driving Instructor Recommendations

I have been taking lessons on and off for years (I'm in my 30s) and have had a fair few terrible driving instructors who have knocked my confidence and motivation, but at last - 12 years after I first started learning!! - I've found a brilliant instructor called Leyla at the AA and I've finally got enough confidence back to have booked my test for April. Fingers crossed for me please!

Leyla has her own website here and you can book her through the AA which also gives you the advantage of getting free AA membership for a while: http://www.lldrivers.co.uk/

I heard about Claire Jones from this website and I have found her to be an excellent teacher who I wholeheartedly recommend. I passed my test yesterday with a few minors ☺
I was a very nervous and anxious learner, having stopped and started lessons between babies, and never felt inspired to persevere with my previous instructors. Claire has been different; she has been really patient and conscientious about how to get me to progress and how to build my confidence. She is also a lovely person who I enjoyed chatting to while driving! I was going to give up on learning to drive but thanks to Claire I kept on this time.
I think she would also be great for those with licenses but who need practice and those from abroad who want to get used to driving in this country.
Her number is 07525 464 708

Hi uintin75,
I am taking driving lessons with Elephant Driving School and i am enjoying every each lesson.
So no matter which driving school your son go to, if he is enjoying and learning with the instructor then this is it.
I had to Switch to Elephant Driving School from my previous instructor, is the right decision I had made.
My Instructor Waqi made me feel confident from the very first day and his lovely sense of humor.
So i only can recommend him for your son.
His Mobile is: 07852776038

Naomi Elia (07862 705 063) is absolutely the person for you. I recently met somebody that failed four times and decided to give up, she then met Naomi and passed first time.

Naomi has very flexible working hours she will accommodate all reasonable requests.

Thanks
Angelique

Can I ask how many lessons did you guys have had on average ? So far I have had 40 lessons and I do not feel I am ready to take the test
I am also having difficulties with learning the road code(I find it very boring!).I am not sure if I need to change my driving instructor or if I am the one that is a "lost cause" ;) ! Any advice is welcome!

Tony Ramsay of Wimbledon Driving School (Manual only, not Automatic)
07956 217694

I am an experienced overseas driver and I needed someone to teach me how to "pass the driving test." During my first lesson with Tony, I realised I've been driving a stick inefficiently for the past 15+ years. Tony immediately corrected all my bad habits. He is very patient and it was always a pleasure to be in the car with him. He used to be a mechanic so he knows how a car works. He had various tips and tricks.

I passed my test the first time around and have recommended him to numerous friends who all passed their test without any problems.

I just passed my test with help from the amazing Claire Jones and would highly recommend her to anyone who is looking for a driving instructor. I learned to drive overseas and Claire was extremely patient with my numerous bad habits. She knows this area like the back of her hand and I felt she prepared me well for all the tricky situations that I could encounter on the test. I found Claire through this site and was worried that she wouldn't live up to the praise she has received already on this site. I needn't have worried - Claire was great and made the whole process really enjoyable!

Naomi Elia (07862 705 063) has taught loads of people off NappValley. Some have been Refreshers and most beginners have passed their Driving Tests 1st time.

She is also very flexible at working round busy mother and baby schedules!

She teaches Manual

Another gratitude to Claire Jones - mob. 07525464708.
I have passed my test from 1st attempt with Claire today (in this horrible weather!) with a few small minors, all thanks to Claire's patience and firm but kind approach. Claire is committed to get you to drive safely and confidently, I think she had so far 100% success rate this year (8 out of 8 from 1st attempt) - the result speaks for itself.
I have tried 3 different instructors in London and always, as a woman, felt inferior and lacking confidence. It helped to have Claire focussing on my problems with driving and consistently teaching anticipation on the road. You still have to work hard and don't expect magic but I am grateful for recommendation here on NVN and getting my licence in less than 3months with Claire Jones.
Can't recommend her highly enough, not that I will miss my daily driving lessons but will definitely remember her kind sense of humour and professionalism.

And yet another good word for the amazing Claire Jones. I’m an overseas driver with little driving experience and Claire gave me the confidence I needed to drive again and pass first time with just one minor!
Claire is a truly gifted instructor. She is relaxed and patient but puts emphasis and enthusiasm on the right things. She helped me to get rid of some bad driving habits and used each lesson efficiently to focus on the things that can make the difference between passing or failing on test day. She knew the test centre in Morden and surrounding areas very well. We practised near the test centre at different times and using various routes to make sure I was prepared to face a wide variety of driving scenarios.
I can now say I actually enjoy driving – even in London! - and I’m a much more confident and even safer driver thanks to her.

I passed my test with Claire after failing 3 times TODAY with 0 faults! It worked for me as she is very good at pointing out and correcting all the faults I made. Due to time limitation, I had to book a test at a test centre which I'm not familiar with at all. Claire took me there and we tried all the possible complicated routes before the test. She prepared me for so many nasty scenarios that I thought I'd never pass the test as it seemed so difficult. However, when I actually had my test, everything feels so easy as she has covered most scenarios with me, including 1) I had to let go ambulances on a busy 40m/hour road with busy traffic; 2) Had to change lanes in a busy road while approaching roundabout; 3) Sandwiched by two big lorries with the front one going extremely slow and the rear one eager to take over on busy road etc, etc. I know I would have been panic in those situations before but I handled very smoothly that the examiner said that I drove very nicely! Well, the '0' probably said it all!
Based on those, I highly recommend Claire, especially if you are a woman! She's not only very patient, but also knows well how woman drives! ;)
