The consultation date has been extended until Monday, September 29 to give people who may have been away during the summer additional time to have their say on this proposal.

For more information about what is being suggested, please visit the council's website http://goo.gl/hxpiZI

Second, on the issue of the 25% extra land beyond the current border of the current redgra pitch which the Council proposes to lease, I think it would help the public visualise what is under discussion if the proposed area were outlined over a satellite image of the north end of the Triangle, easily obtainable via Google.
@Mat I quite agree on your first point. The Tooting Commons Management Advisory Committee and the Friends of Tooting Common have both told the council that such a short consultation period on such an important subject is very disappointing, and we welcome an extension to the consultation period. We've also got a way of sending submissions by email, and that's in the post above.

Re your second paragraph, it was mentioned at the Tooting Commons Management Advisory Committee (the MAC) meeting on Tuesday night, that the council would consider either (1) a smaller pitch size or (2) moving the angle of the pitch in order to save the trees. (I'm speaking in a personal capacity, but the MAC's view was that they are totally opposed to any proposal that sees trees cut down, regardless of any other merits or demerits the plan may have.)

The 29th September deadline is for organisations who wish to register an interest in tendering
They need to do this via: http://www.supplyinglondon.com

The initial advert was published on 21 August 2014 and interested parties are to submit the required information via the portal by no later than 12 noon on Monday 29th September.

I hope this helps.

BTW there is no planning application at this stage as this is a invitation to tender so we are in the pre-planning phase.

Once the Council chooses a provider that provider may need to apply for planning permission, depending on what they decide to do. Tonia

I am just catching up at the end of the week with this thread:-

I will take up the matters raised in earlier posts with Council Officers on Monday. In particular, the timing. I will specifically request an extension date on the consultation to enable as many residents as possible to voice their opinion.
The other main query seems to be whether residents will loose green space on the Common. And the actual scale of the proposal. I will again double check this and come back with answer.

Are there are other specific queries/complaints?

Have a great weekend!

@Mat I was wrong. The date for objections to the council is this coming Monday 8th September. Just found out. We'll get a copy of a contact email address, but in the meantime perhaps email the one you gave and ask for it to be passed on?

I cannot find a reference number for the application in question; can you?
Hi Mat - Thinking about it, I don't think there is a planning application yet. Just the Council disposal notice and the Council's submission to the Planning Inspectorate. I could well be wrong. I did a search on the Wandsworth planning portal and couldn't find anything.

@Mat - can you check that planning application reference? it seems to relate to the Wheatsheaf:

True, I guess. Let's confirm what the closing date for objections is. If it's very early in September (or indeed has already passed), then I'll agree with you!

Hi Simon, I don't own a yacht, dacha, villa or rural bolthole either so have spent a lot of time in August on the Common walking my dog. It is an observable (and predictable) fact that there were far fewer people about in August than in June or July or any other month of the year, just as was the case last year and the year before that. A fortnight in a caravan or B&B in Skegness will remove you just as surely from Tooting Common as a fortnight moored off Cannes!

@Mat

You say people are away for the summer ... I don't think most people in this part of London are rich enough to decamp to their yacht or their dacha for the whole summer, I know I'm not!

I think there's much to object to in the proposals, albeit it's still early days, but personally I don't timing is the biggest issue.

There are signs up at the Triangle and have been for some weeks. The consultation period has been extended (I believe) due to complaints about timing, so the Council have listened to people like you and the Tooting Commons Management Advisory Committee who have asked for more time.

I've seen a lot of council consultations and have missed others, and not the worst by far. I think the Aug/Sep consultation is just due to the cycle of council meetings.

For example, when the boxing club took over usage of the youth club on the Triangle, there was no public announcement, no competitive tendering process, and no public consultation.
