We just had Hillarys install blackout blinds in our bedroom and while they block out most of the light, the room isnt completely black unless we put the curtains on top. I've been using MagicBlinds in our son's room with a cheap Ikea blackout on top and it works pretty well. (Of course those Magic Blinds are super ugly!)
My neighbor had shutters installed in her babies room and found that she still had to use black tape down the sides of the window to block out the light completely.
