Here's the official response from a very helpful lady at Lambeth Council -
Thank you for your query relating to the closure of the Battersea Rise Playground at Clapham Common. Following a number of complaints relating to children slipping and falling in the playground, we had to close this facility in order to carry out necessary inspections and repairs. We completed our inspections and have commissioned the repairs required to make the playground safe again.
The rescheduled start date is Saturday 20th December 2014
We must apologise for the playground not being available for use, but as a responsible authority we often need to take difficult (and sometimes unpopular) decisions. However, in this case this has been to safeguard the welfare and safety of children and their parents/guardians; we would be in breach of our duty of care if we were to leave a playground open when we were aware that equipment or surfaces were unsafe. Whilst the playground is closed and works to repair it are under way, the Windmill Drive Playground remains fully open and under regular inspection, so that play is still freely available to children.
If you have any I further questions please do not hesitate to contact me.
Regards
Joyce Guiste
