That does seem odd. I am also at the Battersea Rise Practice and had to ask for my little one to have all 3 in one go (I already knew the policy had changed). The nurse also showed me each syringe, explained what each was and even showed me the packaging so I could see it was all in date.
I guess it depends on who you get and when!

That's pretty worrying too! Experiences like this leave me feeling I need be on guard at the GP surgery of all places ..

hmmm - now you've said which practice it doesn't surprise me. I booked my son in for a consultation about asthma, the nurse asked for his red book which surprised me as I didn't think I would have to bring it for that. She then advanced on him with a needle! At which point I stopped her and asked what she was doing. she said "MMR booster".

Now he does need his MMR booster, but she didn't know that! She hadn't actually said anything like "so you're here for the MMR booster?" for example! The receptionist had booked the appointment in under the wrong description. Not good.

Having extensively researched the MMR vaccine with my first child, I do agree with it and planned for my youngest to have it.

Just not on the same day as 2 other major vaccines! My little one doesn't cope well with the after effects of jabs, and I would have spaced them out over a few weeks.

I am upset about the lack of attention and care - the nurse didn't even ask my child's name and clearly wasn't paying attention as she wrote the details of a 3 mth old baby in our red book.

In terms of trusting the GP's and nurses where my children are concerned, I feel that I'll have to be on 'red alert' at our next appointment and question/double check everything.

Oh dear, what an unecessarily stressful situation!

I have my daughter's 12 month jabs tomorrow, (although she is actually 13 months now) so I'm glad you warned me about this before hand.

What doctors surgery was it that has this policy?

Also, does anyone what are the current thoughts about the MMR jab? To be honest, when the original hysteria went around about the MMR I was barely out of uni with the thought of children far from my mind so I was kind of oblivious to the whole thing!

We saw the nurse last week for my little ones' 12 month jabs, and she administered the MMR jab without asking/telling me.

I told her we were there for the 12 month immunisations, to which she replied 'I'll give you all 3 today' - which I presumed to be the group of 12 month jabs listed in the red book.

Afterwards I thanked her, and she said 'the MMR can cause a fever so give Calpol if needed' ...

When I questioned her she told me that since November the NHS have been administering the 1st MMR at 12, not 13 months.

I replied ' it says 13 months in my red book - how would I have known that?' And surely she should have made it clear by discussing each immunisation with me?

Other mums I've spoken to say they're always asked to sign a consent form before having jabs - however the nurse told me that parental consent wasn't needed to administer the MMR.

Surely this can't be true? ....
