As a follow on to the previous comments, my initial detox / cleanse was followed up with a 30 day programme including supplements and healthy eating plans with a suggested calorie intake for myself of approximately 1500 calories based on my BMR etc. The plan includes an initial 9 day kickstand followed by F.I.T.1 & F.I.T.2 - as the name implies - incorporating exercise according to your goals - for me build lean muscle mass after initial weight loss of 3 stones in 3 months. Started at over 13 stones last February and have kept it off. I have 4 kids inc a 2 yr old so needed something easy & sustainable as I'm very busy & love love my food - lol! X

Hello, I am a nutritionist so thought I would share a view on this. Personally I think that anything short term or too extreme is unlikely to have a lasting effect. The best programmes will use an initial detox phase to kick out some old habits and get you on more of a healthy eating plan that you can then maintain. Following a set plan makes it far simpler and you are more likely to stick to it.

Good plans usually include supplements that aid the detoxification process and ease the side effects. Be aware that initial weight loss is often water so avoid anything that sounds too good to be true.

A few people commented on the caffeine come down, if you are a regulator tea or coffee drinker you are likely to get headaches at first. This should normally settle after 4 days. Choose programmes that last at least 14-21 days for best results.

Hope that helps
Jo

I did a 9-day detox a couple of years ago. I knew that I drank a lot of tea during the day, but hadn't realised the impact this would have on the programme. My 'not drinking this huge amount' gave me the biggest headache ever and I felt really awful.

Detoxing is a good idea, and if you are embarking on such a mission, then my advice to you is to cut down on your caffeine before you start, thereby minimising the risk of withdrawal complications. Having completed the cleanse, I have cut down my daily caffeine intake drastically - the first pot of the day has one regular & one decaf tea bag, and for the rest of the day it's decaf all the way.

I wouldn't will one of those headaches on my worst enemy!

Good luck..

ir probably does work but not for me! did one of the xpensive 3 days just juices one. 5 juices a day but the issue, and I can eat pretty much everything, is that one was impossible to drink and for the rest had to make efforts. I felt thirsty all the time and somehow more tired...did not really feel much cleanse going on without going more descriptive! maybe a home made version works best but working full time went for the no fuss option.

I am just coming to the end of my detox which has done wonders for me! It's a nutritional cleanse which ensures built up toxins are flushed from our system and replaced with lots of vitamins & good stuff. Feel less bloated, far more energetic and dropped a few pounds too. More info can be found here: http://yourwellbeing.myforever.biz/foreverfit/

Does a detox work?

Hi All
After all the excess of Xmas I'm thinking of detoxing.

Has anyone done it? What's the best approach? Does it make you feel better?

Sort of think it's just about being sensible but the masochist in me wonders if I need to go for carrot scrpings and raw potatos!
