Why don't you try Linear London? They have a gorgeous range of styles including Alno Kitchens and import beautiful Italian tiles. They are a bit of a hidden gem as they are off the high St - but they have a great showroom just on Zennor Road in Balham. Their head designer Francis is really helpful too! Most decent kitchen fitters (who supply units) will try and stay away from the 'normal' high street stores mentioned in this thread.

Its generally agreed that at the moment a company called Crown and Imperial manufacture very good kitchens for the trade. You will have to purchase through a tradesman and remember all kitchens, no matter what the quality, are only as good as the designer and fitter - so finding a good kitchen fitter is just as paramount as finding the right product.

Ikea all the way. We got the Laxarby one with Little Greene paint on the doors and it looks gorgeous, not cheap looking at all!

If you don't have mega cash to splash then Howdens are great! I've done x3 magnet kitchens in the not so distant past and can say tat my recent experience with Howdens (& the quality of the units) is WAY better!

If you want to stick to budget then Howdens is worth a visit.
They are trade only although can out you in touch with kitchen fitters who will but and fit the kitchen for you. If you do have your own company it's pretty easy to set up account.
The quality is very high, even their lowest level kitchens are better than say Wickes, B&Q and IKEA.
The brochure if very chunky and worth looking through.

We're looking to do our kitchen and have just been to Neptune kitchens on Wandsworth Bridge Road whose kitchens were beautiful. Does anyone have any experience with them?

There used to be a showroom on Battersea Park Road for Unpainted Kitchens, by where I lived at the time. I went in and found them really helpful and friendly, plus they were excellent value and good quality. Taking a look at their website it seems they're relocating. http://www.unpaintedkitchens.com/

Otherwise, I know Plain English have a cheaper range now. Can't remember what it's called but I'm sure they'd be able to tell you. It doesn't have a lot of styles, but they're essentially Shaker style so would be the type of thing you're looking for.

Interesting feedback about Jewson - I also went via Dennis at the Fulham branch. Although their sales service was excellent, I would not go through them again as their after sales service was appalling. One of the panels arrived split, and it took numerous phone calls and months of chasing for them to send through a replacement. When they finally did, it was a size too big, so we had to go through it all again. We also ordered a corner cupboard - the 'magic' system, but we were sent the one for a left hand opening when we needed the right hand opening version. They blamed the delivery guys who apparently had sent the wrong versions to different households.
In hindsight we should have gone with Magnet - Balham branch. Would have saved a lot of headaches.

We got our shaker style cabinets and solid oak work tops from IKEA! Four years later we are still delighted with the quality of it. You wouldn't guess in a million years that it came from ikea. It was half the price of other local kitchen companies.

I used Jewson on carnworth road in Fulham. AMAZING service, very bespoke and on a par with magnet. Dennis is the guy I dealt with and couldn't recommend him highly enough.

I'd recommend Howdens kitchens - they are very reasonably priced and good quality.

It helps to know exactly what you're after though, I did a ton of research before settling on them so didn't get bamboozled by sales talk and ended up with exactly the kitchen I'd wanted.

Otherwise Benchmarx is supposed to be very good but I don't have personal experience.

They have just finished building and painting our kitchen and we will be having it installed soon. Very happy so far.
