It's all down to personal choice whether the jabs are administered separately or together as the MMR I suppose, but why wasn't a bigger study ever done (by the original Dr or anyone else) to determine if autism really is caused by the MMR jab? The original paper was publicised in 1998 reporting a study of twelve children who had similar bowel symptoms and also happened to develop Autism. That's not many kids for a true study as to the effects of Autism alone, plus the fact it was 17 years ago so plenty of time for someone else to run a proper study with a lot more children. Has a study been done on all the kids who had separate vaccines as to whether any of those kids developed Autism?

The National Autistic Society would like more evidence as to the causes of Autism but the thing that swayed me that there was no evidence to the link between Autism and the MMR was their statement:
The National Autistic Society (NAS) is keenly aware of the understandable concerns of parents surrounding suggested links between autism and the MMR vaccine. We recognise that the weight of epidemiological evidence indicates that there is no statistically significant link between the MMR vaccine and autism.

My children both had the MMR jab and they are not showing any Autistic tendencies.

It's all a big conspiracy folks! Those shape-shifting politicians are trying to cover up all the evidence that the MMR jab causes autism and are forcing it on our poor kids for their own nefarious means. Same with the polio vaccine which thank heavens a lot of people in rural Pakistan are now refusing - because they know it's just a plot to sterilise their kids. Yes, polio, which was nearly eradicated for good, has come back with a vengeance but it's a small price to pay.

It's so fortunate we have the Internet with its wealth of fair and balanced information to warn us of the dangers of these terrible things. Now we all know there really are fairies at the bottom of the garden and the moon is made of green cheese.

This is an interesting youtube video which gives some stats on measles and why it's coming back. Might be worth a watch?

As a parent we all have to make choices on behalf of our children. It's a massive responsibility to get it right, we are their guardians and they can't make the choices for themselves. We want to keep our children safe. It's hard to take your child to the doctors and watch someone make them scream but injecting them with a needle but we do it because ultimately they will be protected from something far worse.

Since the link between Autism and the MMR was suggested, there has been a lot of work into genetics and Autism and there is evidence that autism is genetic (one article here) http://www.ninds.nih.gov/disorders/auti ... autism.htm
unfortunately people can discover signs of Autism around the time the MMR jabs are given and the link seems stronger.

Hi!

I've got two on the spectrum, and I'm totally convinced there's no link between autism and the MMR (and actually you'll find most parents with autistic kids will say the same - I know quite a few!). Try the Mumsnet SN children boards, this question comes up regularly and they are extremely knowledgeable. They don't mind people asking questions either.

Thanks for the links, very interesting.
Just so that you know where I'm coming from, the majority of things I'm reading and listening to comes from parents of autistic children.
Just an example below as you'll find tons of articles pro-vaccine, but also tons of articles explaining the cons.

It's one thing if you're "fine" for your child to experience what could be a otherwise completely avoidable illness, but what if she were to infect a vulnerable child eg. A baby too young to be vaccinated yet or infected a pregnant mother with rubella. Or what about if your child infected someone with a compromised immune system say undergoing cancer treatment?

There is no scientifically proven link to austism in the MMR vaccine (the original study writer's fictitious claims were disproven and he is also disbarred from practising medicine in the UK). We as a society have a responsibility to protect each other and in my view this includes vaccination. Science has proven that vaccination shouldn't be an opt in treatment, it is a necessity.

Thank you all for your answers.
The reason why I don't want to give the MMR is the potential link to the authism. I read a lot on this subject and eventually decided to keep her away from this live vaccine.
Honestly I prefer incurring the risk of catching these viruses, I had myself all of these when I was a baby (since there was no vaccination at the time) and thanks God didn't experience nasty consequences.
I'll get in touch with babyjab but found interesting the note on the booster dose...
Than you again for your replies mummies :)

I took my son to have the single doses privately only to be then told when I took him for pre school boosters last Autumn that the single doses are no longer recognised so he had to have the combined MMR then & there & then a follow up MMR jab a couple of weeks ago.

Please don't skip the mumps vaccination, a dear friend of mine was not vaccinated and caught them leaving him deaf in one ear and as he and his wife have just discovered infertile.
