Good Evening,

We had our long-awaited meeting with Crossrail 2 this evening. This followed the successful campaign we ran earlier this year to have the access shafts moved from Skylark and Trinity Fields.

Key points from the meeting:
•Crossrail 2 fully recognise that the provisional choice of location for shafts at Skylark and Trinity Fields was 'inappropriate', so those sites are off the table
•There will now follow a period of active engagement with local residents and community groups (ie an expanded 'SaveTheCommon' group)
•This will consider alternative route alignments and locations for the access shafts, with the aim of choosing the least disruptive site(s)
•It may be that only one shaft is needed rather than two (dependent on consultation with the emergency services, and the exact underground route chosen); this would be good news if it materialises
•This process will develop some potential options for our area; similar discussions will be had across the length of the route and a new public consultation for Crossrail 2 (across London) will be launched in the autumn.

I feel that Crossrail 2 are very much in listening mode now and hopefully that will lead to some strong ideas coming forward so that this project can be a success. There will be more information to come in due course and I will continue to keep you informed.

Best regards,

Dan Watkins

Hello All,

We received the official consultation report from the Department of Transport this week, and you can read it here - http://t.co/kzWfi7IqP1

It shows that 80% of all responses for the Crossrail 2 consultation - which ran across the whole of London - came just from Wandsworth Common. This is local people power at its best!

The DfT response confirmed that the two controversial shafts will be removed from Skylark on the Common and from Trinity Fields, while keeping the overall Crossrail2 project, which we do need to improve local transport, on track. Thanks to everyone who responded to the consultation, it has made a difference.

Discussions continue about the number and location of shafts needed between Tooting Broadway and Clapham Junction and I will update you again later in the spring once we have more news.

Rgds,
Dan Watkins

One does try to be honest, the opposite is unfortunate!

Boris has acknowledged the issue which was clearly stated in my email, the first para makes the link

The Mayor is in a tricky statutory position at this stage and is highly unlikely to interject overtly. I am simply glad to have an acnowledgement that he registers our specific issue.

I wasn't aware that he personally knew about Trinity Fields etc being destroyed by Crossrail2 and the resultant impact on sport, so it wasn't 'blindingly obvious' to me!

I hope that appears more honest! It does amaze me the raw insults some people throw on forums when hidden by anonimity. It hardly assists the exchange of information.

Excellent letter from BJ today - very supportive - will put it online and provide a link if I am allowed

mungomuffit wrote:Come on actuallyadad, you are being very unreasonable. It is not rugby's job and nor in his ability (no offence rugby ;) ) or any other individual or local group to deliver a new Crossrail proposal. That is TFL's job.

No one is denying that it won't be a great asset for our part of SW London.
What TFL need to do is undertake a survey of all alternate places for the shafts on brown field or other sites, like perhaps they could purchase some property in private ownership... I don't know as I don't have that level of information at my disposal unfortunately. TFL does, so let's hope they get on with the job as there must be an alternative to their first suggestion of putting them on the Common and Trinity Fields.

If anyone has a knee-jerk reaction then it is you actuallyadad, having apparently already decided that the Common and Trinity Fields are the perfect sites for the shafts and there are no alternatives. Even TFL hasn't decided that yet, so I don't know how you can be so sure.
No offence taken from you - getting quite hacked off with actuallyadad also known as VYMummy - yawn - the knee jerk

VYMummy sounds awfully like Actuallyadad. Guess what she joined and posted twice in 15 minutes and never returned - poor effort actuallyadad aka VYMummy - try harder next time!

On this subject I am a SINGLE ISSUE objector - protecting sport - I guess that makes me a proud NIMBY protecting green space - - I don't see how that is bad.

I particularly don't see why it makes such beliefs subject to insult from anonymous people with unkown agendas,

'my campaign'

I am merely one person - representing a sporting organisation with a few thousand members.

This is not 'my campaign'

I have no need to propose transport solutions for south London. You may choose to.

Please let us put our own point of view and stop making false presumptions and assumptions.

Re: www.savewandsworthcommon.com

So you don't have an alternative suggestion then. You really need to think about one before your campaign can be taken seriously. Just saying "no" is over simplistic. Come up with a good alternative idea that works, and I would certainly support you.

What will I do? Continue to support the improvement of London's infrastructure and encourage people to think about the long term prosperity of London for the benefit of their children and future generations, even if that does mean some short term inconvenience. That's what I will do.

I will leave TFL to distill the comments and interventions which they have WELCOMED from this early stage consultation, not least those from our statutory authority SportEngland who we have asked to get involved.

No doubt they will let us know when they are ready for the next round and their strategic planners have investigated all the possible alternatives.

In the interim we will continue to deliver sporting opportunity to the community on the restricted grass we have available and get on with building a new all weather pitch in partnership with the community to maximise the availability.

What will you do!?

Let's hear your realistic alternative suggestion then?
