I love our Ikea kitchen - it's tops. They actually score better than John Lewis in Which? surveys, but the units cost £2,000 instead of £20,000.

Ikea kitchens can be a pain for builders to put in though, so a lot of them moan about them/refuse to do them.

The previous one is an ikea kitchen.
This latter one is a custom made storage unit.

Hi
You could get Ikea to do the installation as well, if you are buying a kitchen from them its probably best you do as then there is no room for error. They will send a consultant out to your house anyway to check the measurements are correct. I would book an apt with their kitchen department and they will help with the layout and you will get 3D examples of the end result. I have done some decorating and a lot of research on kitchens and in terms of value for money I think Ikea Kitchens are brilliant. They would be able to do your floors as well however you may have to get a builder in to get rid of all the old materials.
The alternative is to hire a builder and you choose your flooring and kitchen and get them to do all the removals and installations.
Hope this is helpful.
Nikki

Kitchen refurb, I need help!

by JulieA » Tue Apr 07, 2015 9:41 am

Hi all,

My kitchen needs to be refurbished and I would like advice or recommendations as I have no idea where to start! I am on a tight budget, so I thought buying units from Ikea would be a good idea but I was told most contractors will only work with their own units, is that true?? I also have to have the floor completely redone (new joists I guess), any chance I could find a company that will do all the work, i.e. floor + get rid of the old units + install new ones?
Any advice welcome, thank you!
