My first post, but I wanted to add comments on Build Team. I also believe they veg their reviews as they are close to impossible to find.

I've been really disappointed in them. They hammer their suppliers, have very dodgy approaches to resolving issues where a smokescreen, unclear communication and confusion win the day, then when things aren't right they either blame the customer, or the sub contractor.

Nice people, but opporated by very inexperienced staff.

I'm not saying avoid them, but if you think you will give them £100k and in 12 weeks your dreams will be realised, hassle free, you are totally wrong.

Doing it again, I would get an architect to do real detailed drawings and take me through planning, then tender these drawings to someone with a word of mouth reputation who is willing to show you past projects and let you talk to past customers.

We used Plus Rooms for a full house refurbishment, loft conversion and kitchen extension to a relatively high spec. We had a great experience with them.

I believe this was due to us both recognising that that we were working together to a common goal. We stayed on top of the project and took responsibility for making decisions when needed and they did what they said they would when then said they would do it it. The finishing team led by Alex were excellent!

As with any project of this size their were a few pressure points but we worked through these professionally to a mutually acceptable compromise.

When we move we will work with them again.

Hi, I think that all big building companies have bigger or smaller flaws, it took us also a long time to choose one of them, after weeks of quotations and phone calls we actually decided to start working with a local company - Lifestyle Design and Build - http://www.lifestylebyasq.co.uk . They are based in Clapham Common (I had 10 minutes walk to their office) and they are very reliable, family-run company. They took care of our house, we were constantly in touch and I must say that the atmosphere during the works was excellent. ;)

Good luck! :)

Since my original post re Plus Rooms we have resolved the outstanding issues we had with them and they have left us with a great finished product. The loft extension is massive, has loads of light and they were very clever about how they applied for planning permission to get the biggest space. Robbie went out of his way to help us out.

We used Plus Rooms for a loft conversion.

The service was thoroughly professional and the end result was excellent. The build team that undertook our project were both highly skilled and courteous and took great pride in the work they undertook whilst respecting the fact they were working in our home.

We fully expected the odd thing not to go according to plan during the project but Plus Rooms always provided solutions and executed them swiftly which was always welcome.

The main builder was always available to talk issue through no matter what time of day or night and went out of his way to ensure his team met our aspirations for our home.

I would whole heartedly recommend Plus Rooms and would certainly use them again in the future.

Just a little ps to my recommendation a moment ago as I have just caught up with the thread just above and don't want people to worry / jump to conclusions. I am new to posting on nappy valley net though I have regularly researched products through the forum and found users insights helpful. I have genuinely just completely a work with Plusrooms and would never allow a company to put their words in my mouth, this is simply the first time I have had something to contribute on a topic! :) an honest if isolated review and I do hope it will be useful.

We used plus rooms and were very pleased with the service they provide. Our building team were friendly, courteous in our house and worked quickly and efficiently (during the building works we had lots of men on site each day and therefore they moved rapidly through the stages). Getting all the final bits and pieces finished took longer but the quality of work was good.
Our project manager was really responsive to any challenges faced and came up with solutions to problems quickly and helpfully.
We tendered for the project and we felt plus rooms to be good value - there weren't any scary surprises in costs from the quoting stages to the final stages. We are now enjoying our kitchen extension in time for summer and very pleased we went through it all, the discomfort of living in a building site for a few months was well worth it!

Thank you for your balanced reply nappy valley ... I appreciate moderation is important in these matters, but in this case LP73 is entirely wrong. We also tendered 11 ways, and spent almost 4 months in the process (8mth old baby in tow things take a while!)... We have just lived through an efficient 8month build and finishing process and are delighted with the work. Plus Rooms were our builders and in our view did a fantastic job. Surely it is helpful to post such feedback in this kind of forum? They absolutely deserve it. LP73- you I know have no reason to trust me , but then not sure you have a reason to not trust me either, which is why it is a shame you have responded in the manner in which you did. It is hard not to be upset but for the sake of others going through the torturous process surely such posts are helpful. Time to get on an enjoy rest of bank holiday Monday and I hope you all do too. I would be very wary of following recommendations from someone who has only posted once (like the last post) normally it is the company trying to plug their own services.
Thanks for pointing that out LP73.

We do ask that users only recommend (or criticise) businesses once they have built up some "engagement" with the community as otherwise it does come across as a false positive or negative comment from someone in the trade.

@MegRunner, please don't take this comment the wrong way. Some users get very upset when we mention this as they take it as a critisicm of themselves. We're not saying that at all, simply that we do have to be a little careful.

Its one of the things we need to make clearer in the sign-up terms and we'll get around to that over the summer.

So...

Thanks LP73 for pointing it out and...

MegRunner, please don't feel offended if your post (and these posts) disappear later today once people have had a chance to read them and understand what we've done!

And thanks everyone for using NVN!

:-)

We are using a fantastic builder for a huge project and I can highly recommend. We received 12 different quotes, some were tens of thousands apart and some of the builders that we met really didn't have a clue what they were doing. It took us three months to meet them all, get together a very detailed quoted. We also visited some of the work of the four companies we selected for final tender. A couple were not up to our standard so that helped with our decision.

I would be more than happy to recommend our builder to you. They are professionals, manage the whole project from start to finish if required, polite, very knowledgable, have saved us money and have all trades in house.
Please PM if you could like further details.
Thanks

Hi,

Just sitting in our new extension enjoying the fact there's no work tomorrow - and that i am surrounded by .... space!! Feel compelled to sing praises of Plus Rooms who made this happen fast, to a really high standard (I know this as I brought in some independent workmen / carpenters etc who worked alongside Plus Rooms and they all commented on the high standard of the plus rooms work), with committed, hard working teams that didn't hang about... no lounging about drinking tea, the minute they set foot in the house they were working ...really nice guys too, no hesitation having them in the house while we were out. The brilliance of Plus Rooms was the project consultant James, who, at the outset came up with a brilliant layout idea that has given us so much more usable space. It seemed unconventional initially, but it was absolutely the right thing to do and the spacing works superbly - genius.

Professional, true to their word, fast, high quality, reasonable.... I think you would very unlikely to regret using them if you decided to. Not the most expensive on the market - not the cheapest either, but refreshingly professional. Good luck with your project! (not that you'll need it if you use Plus Rooms!)

We recently used plus rooms for our kitchen extension and were really happy with their service. I found James ( one of the owners ) really helpful at the start when deciding on design etc - he offered up lots of suggestions... Price wise they were competitive & stayed true to their original quote !

We had a project manager assigned to us ( Alex ) who was great - he was on site every week , explained the different stages and if we had any problems quickly got them rectified .

The whole process has been a really positive one and I would highly recommend !

We have used Plus Rooms on a few occasion and have been pleased with the results. We have had two different teams working on the two major projects we undertook and I would say one was definitely better than the other. Having said that Plus Rooms have always been very quick at returning to fix any snags we may have had. In particular their project manager Daryl is excellent at keeping you informed on progress and returning phone calls ! I would definitely use them again if I need any building work done.

My husband, a chartered quantity surveyor, runs a small local project management business. He would be more than happy to discuss how he can assist with your projects from start to finish using local architects and builders. If you would like more details please PM me or call/email Andy directly on 07980544809/ andy@runprojects.co.uk Thanks!

Hi Dnmama,

Would agree with Claphamfather, the branded building companies have been a bit of a disappointment for us in the past as well. We ended up using Bart: 07872 338 775 http://www.pristinefinish.co.uk for an extension, kitchen and bathroom refurb and some building. If he can't help, he will be able to point you in the right direction, great work, has a lot of time and patience as some of the mums on here know x
