Thank you all for taking the time to reply! Thanks Annabel for putting it in the weekly email! I'll pass the info to my friend.

Many thanks again!

Hanne and Co opposite Clapham Junction station are great. James Dunn in particular...

Costs vary wildly depending on how straightforward or otherwise it is. When both parties are in agreement and just want it finalised and over and done with, it can be done for a few hundred pounds.
When one side wants to string it out by objecting to everything, refusing to negotiate other than through lawyers, or if there are complicated assets to divide up, it is easy to rack up a £30k bill within a year.

Hi
Your friend can do the divorce herself and save lots of money. The divorce process itself is quite easy and straightforward
all really well explain here: https://www.gov.uk/divorce/overview

I would also recommend that she buy a book to understand the divorce and the financial implications. I used the following and it really help me understand the process and have the confidence that yes, I could do it myself.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Your-Own-Divorc ... 1845283554

For the finance part (which is separate from the divorce process) I use a solicitor as I felt it was too risky to do it myself.
I used Burgess Mee and they were nice and did the job efficiently

All the best to your friend. It is tough but in the end, she will be glad to move on with her life.

Nicole Hackett at Family Law in Partnership, Covent Garden is very good. Understanding, sympathetic but also knows her stuff.

Hi all

Does anyone have any idea how much a divorce lawyer costs? And can anyone recommend a good but not too expensive divorce lawyer?

A friend of mine is in a desperate situation. The husband doesn't work but has been behaving unreasonably for a year or so - not coming home at night and being aggressive etc. He doesn't want to leave the comfortable life she has created. But she is desperate to move on.

She wanted to file for a divorce herself but not sure whether this will take too long. Any advice would be much appreciated.
