I think we are pretty well served by some fantastic nurseries in the Balham area, but, like the previous posters, my recommendation would also have to be Oaktree Nursery on Ramsden Road. All of my children (including the one that is still there!) have just loved their time at Oaktree. The range of activities that the children do is huge - yoga, music and drama, sport, cookery, lots and lots of art, Spanish, community walks, as well as conventional pre-literacy and numeracy learning - but as almost all of these activities are play-based, the children never feel pressurised or pushed; they just have fun and are stimulated and interested. There is also a lot of free play and my children have formed some wonderful friendships at Oaktree that have lasted long after they have left and have gone to different schools. The staff is fab too - often very well qualified and, most importantly, really kind and nurturing (my children have loved their teachers!) I could go on, but I realise that choosing a nursery or school is a personal choice, so the best I can suggest is to visit Oaktree for yourself or look at their website if you're interested:
