I would also like to mention that I get tinnitus when I have caffeine. So I completely removed it from my diet and my symptoms became manageable.

In additional to caffeine i'm told alcohol can exacerbate symptoms so there is another suggestion for you though I don't drink alcohol so can't say either way.

Hypnotherapy!!!!

take away all dairy from your diet- this massively helped! and sugar!

I saw an amazing doctor at Chelsea and West - Neurologist... Dr Kennedy.

My Tinnitus developed into a palsy and was quite traumatic.

I would also recommend a sound machine...

Have you considered hypnotherapy? I do offer a free 30 minute consultation. I've worked with tinnitus before. If it has arisen seemingly out of nowhere, rather than being as the result of some physical trauma, the mind body connection is worth considering.

Hi Onlyme,

There was a Tinnitus helpline, that were quite good on giving advice and support, sorry I couldn't find the details. When it first came on for me, it drove me crazy and I don't think anyone understood the severity.

You do get used to it and I can usually tune it out now (it did take a couple of months). However at the beginning, when I was stressed or had nothing to occupy myself with, that is when I focused on the tinnitus and the awful sound entirely.

A visit to my doctor was no good, they were really sympathetic, though there was little they could do. If it is really bad, I think there are some local support and counselling groups in some areas or a hearing aid providing white noise which may create some relief.

In my case, it was a wake up call to stay active and not to stress out and I have gotten used to it now. It did take sometime, but now it has little impact. Hopefully, this will be a similar experience for your friend and thank you for being so considerate and kind in looking out for them.

Hope this was helpful x

I suffer from tinnitus and after doing the same long level radio etc i finally saw my GP and was referred to st georges. The wait time was not that long about 6 weeks i think for the letter and then i had a series of appointments these were very time consuming but i have been pleasantly surprised by the help offered to me - particulary as friends and family didn't think that you can do much.
