A big thanks to all of you that took the trouble to respond with your recommendations and warnings! So sorry to hear of the troubles some of you experienced!

We ended up having the new windows made and fitted by Chapel Lane and we are delighted with them! Patrick is a pleasure to deal with and extremely efficient - windows were made locally and fitted within 4weeks! Now we beautiful windows giving us a much warmer house with vastly reduced road noise.

I would highly recommend Chapel Lane to anyone else looking to replace their Sash Windows.

we used Wandsworth sash windows (or sash windows london as they are also now cunningly known, maybe to get a new name ?!) and had the biggest nightmare ever. When we ordered we had massive delays (13 weeks to get the windows, promised 6 weeks), most of the windows made/painted wrong. some windows even had the wrong glass in! 2 years on - we have just spent alot of money getting them draft proofed, the windows are cracking outside and water was coming in on one of the frames. the list goes on... As for the guys that run it, well they don't care for their customers at all as like other people have, you have to take them to court.

Give Nationcare Windows a call on 0208 397 3700 or 01372 463636. I've been very happy with the uPVC windows (non-sash), and they've been very responsive -- although your lead time may be a challenge.

Wondering if anyone can help - we're looking for UPVC sash windows to be fitted (replacing old wooden sash) in Clapham, with a very short lead time of 7 days!

Does anyone know anyone that can help?

A late recommendation:

We used RG Windows Ltd (http://www.rgwindows.co.uk/) to replace all our windows about five years ago.

They still look great after all those years, and perform well.

RG Windows also manufacture for a lot of other companies, so by going directly to them you can cut out the middle man. Radoslav Kirev, the owner, is very hands on and is normally doing the survey personally.

I would second the comment on Wandsworth Sash Windows.

DO NOT use under any circumstances.

They were very rude, the owner/manager was one of the most aggressive people I have ever encountered and infact I was afraid to have him in my house. The product and workmanship were also ridiculously poor.

I appreciate the recommendations on here though, as we have other windows that need replacing and are looking for a reliable company, having had our fingers burnt once.

Regards,

Mumford and Wood are very very good - not cheap but you won't regret buying from them.
http://www.mumfordwood.com/box-sash-windows/

We bought from Wandsworth sash windows last year and it was a big mistake. Windows are drafty, they let alot of noise in from the cars outside, the outside wood is cracking already on 3 windows, some of the windows were painted wrong and once Wandsworth sash windows had supplied the windows they are just plain rude and denied they had even installed one of our windows to Fensa!

Sash windows also rescued me when I locked myself out of my house in my pyjamas and slippers with no phone! (Wind shut the door behind me when putting out rubbish) they were so polite and extremely helpful, he climbed through a bathroom window (a tiny one at that). Saved my life! So for politeness definitely go for them!

Mirek from MTN Herman has done all our windows. Would definitely recommend him and I did a lot of research at the time and he was cheapest as well. His number is 07885551724

Another recommendation for Artisans Carpentry and they were very good, would definitely use them again. Very easy to deal with and a really good finish.
