The Lambeth one isn't Chinese whispers at all, I can't speak for the Wimbledon Park one but the guy grabbed hold of the girl's jacket. That's scary enough for me. The police have leafleted the local area and have a visible presence in the area - there's not much more they can do. They're trying to jog someone's memory, let's hope it does

As previously stated. The 4 attempted abductions are true. One was a very young looking 16 year old au pair, one was a 11 year old girl on the one to school, two were young looking adults. Out of these I believe two to have been reported to the police.

Theres no reason to lie about things so serious

It never ceases to amaze me how easily chinese whispers can create unnecessary hysteria which has now spread across to the Wandsworth schools. As the police have said, this was a low level assault, and not an attempted abduction. Two very different things. I think it is always a good idea to take these warnings with a pinch of salt, and to ring the police for clarification if you really are concerned.

Hello Everyone,
Below is a statement that we received from Wandsworth police regarding this attempted abduction, we are grateful for them sending this through as it was in the Lambeth area.

<statement starts>

Lambeth officers are investigating a low level assault of a young child last Wednesday, 23 March at approximately 08:30 am at Rodenhurst Road with the junction of Hambalt Road SW4 Clapham.

No medical assistance was necessary.

Lambeth officers are appealing for witnesses who may have seen a white man in his 30’s of a skinny build, approximately 5ft 6 in height and wearing a blue hooded top acting suspiciously around that time.

To contact Lambeth’s CID TDC Brown on 020 8649 2069 or you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

<statement ends>

We are however still waiting for a statement from police regarding this other alleged incident here:

Unfortunately this abduction was genuine and police were patrolling outside all the Clapham Schools last week, during pick up and drop off.

It was a genuine attempted abduction and I have this from the staff at the school where the child attends, as I worked there. I also received information in the newsletter from my sons school. This is possibly an inter-family abduction so not a concern to everyone. It does send a message to be vigilant though and keep safe regardless.

I'm sure scare mongering and rumors will shortly circulate.

Hi all, I live on Narbonne Ave, just round the corner from where this incident was reported as taking place. Like a lot of others I always wonder how much truth there is in these terrible reports and have been discussing exactly that with my friends a lot of the last couple of days.
I took the opportunity to speak to a passing couple of police officers this afternoon Thurs 31st as they walked down my street and they stated CATEGORICALLY that this incident HAD BEEN REPORTED TO THEM AS STATED (a white male attempting to abduct an 8 year old child at 8.30am on the corner of Hambalt and Rodenhurst Roads). They also said that the man had not been aprehended however that this was as yet, a one off incident. They also said that they are upping the patrols around local schools.
So I just wanted to make sure that everyone knew that this is true.
Thanks,
Jane.

Surely something so serious should be on the news? Or on the front page of a local newspaper, at least?

Instead it's left for local parents to pick up bits of info from others. If it's at all true and not another scaremongering story.
