Hi BabyL, ask them, our nursery raised their fees because of the new minimum wage law but we received a letter a couple of weeks before to let us know. Usually nurseries raise their fees in September.

Is this nursery in Fulham (Parson's Green), off the New Kings Road by any chance?

I suspect that the timing of the fees increase is related not so much to the new tax year but rather to the increase in the national minimum wage (for over 25s) from £6.70 to £7.20, which occurred on 1 April.

Since it coincides with the new tax year it sounds quite normal to me and you have probably just been unlucky in your timing. Also a new higher 'living wage' has just been introduced in the UK which might impact on the nursery if they are paying minimum wage to some of the more junior workers. You might want to ask them how often they raise their fees to get an idea of what you can expect in the future but I suspect it is once a year.

Normal for nursery to raise fees after three months?

Hello,

My son has been going to a wonderful nursery since the beginning of the year, yet they have raised their fees of about £3 a day. Is this normal practice? The change is little but I wonder if all nurseries do that?

It coincides with the new tax year.

Thanks for your feedback !
