Hi,

We live on the Shaftesbury estate and our daughter attends on of the 2 primary schools on the estate. We absolutely love living here.

You don't say why you are concerned about proximity of social housing? The Peabody houses on the estate are homes for a mix of people, including young families. We have had the pleasure of getting to know people here who are as diverse as you would expect for a central London area that is not a socio-economic "bubble". In my opinion that diversity is one of the best things about living here.

Although we do head to Northcote road for extra-curricular classes, we also enjoy the ease of going to the Kings Road for shopping, to Battersea Park and to Southbank for the galleries and theatre. It's also an easy bike ride into the west end. Of course Battersea Power station is within walking distance too.

We have lived here for 7 years and love it. No regrets at all.
Lovely community and despite it's proximity to 2 busy main roads it is usually very quiet

Hello,

We have been in a similar situation a couple of years when tempted to buy a house within Shaftesbury Estate. We did it after hours of walk around the area at different time during the day / evening and conversations with people living around.
Now we really enjoy the area and have no regret! Part of the houses are own by Peobody Trust and most people are around for 30+ years. everyone knows everyone with a great feel of a village community where people help each other feeding cats, water plants, doing shopping and really look after each other.
More and more families are moving within the area into the privately owned houses, often extremely well done up.
We have now 2 children and in the last 2 years new families arrived around us with babies and young children, including international families (German, French, etc).
It is also very quiet but still convenient to go to clapham junction, take the bus to Clapham Common station or towards Chelsea. we used to live toward Clapham South but now being between Clapham Common and Battersea Park offers a great alternative and you can even walk to Kings Road in about 45min. And still very close to Northcote road area (walking or using the G1 bus going into Shaftesbury Estate which is very convenient).

Hi all,

High property prices are pushing us out of buying 'in between the commons' & SW12 area.
We are considering buying a 2/3 bed victorian cottage in Battersea's Shaftsbury estate (sw11). This area seems quiet & very pretty & relatively affordable (compared to other areas in the borough)- but worried about the level of social housing in the area......
We have a young child & a dog- we'd like to live amongst similar young families.

Does anybody live in this area? Or can give an opinion/experience/ advice on this area?

thanks!!
