I've had three c-sections at Georges, and my first was over 6 years ago, before their enhanced recovery. For that one, I had to stay two nights. But my second two c-sections were with their enhanced recovery program, which I felt was hugely beneficial. They have you up and walking the same day, and although it's daunting, I really do believe it speeds the recovery process. So for my 2nd and 3rd section, I was discharged about 36 hours after. I could have stayed, but I didn't want to. And definitely ask for a private room. I think its £100 per night or so, and it's money well spent! You can't book, so you have to request as soon as you check-in for your c-section on the day of the op. Although I always missed the hospital beds, I was still happier to be home. And do stay on top of your meds - don't try to be tough. If you don't stay ahead of the pain, it's really hard to get it back under control.
I've had lovely experiences at St Georges and would highly recommend it - each time, the team was amazing. And I think you will find very similar 24 hour discharge periods after sections at the other hospitals on the NHS.
