We always pay the full hourly wage - It might seem a lot but I have to agree with the first reply that work is still work. I absolutely do not want her to have anybody round or think that because its night and the kids are asleep she can "have some free time" - because I think this was I also think it is only fair to pay her her agreed hourly wage.

Thanks for your thoughts SW12Pops and Hercule

The 50% for sleeping hours is something we've done before and perhaps that's the right way to go.

When I provide overnight care, I charge half my hourly rate for sleeping hours.
Hope that helps.

Any ideas on a fair amount to pay her? Her hourly rate is £11 after tax.
It's a tough one.

A nanny *friend* described it to me as this:

= how many hours away multiplied by hourly rate plus allowance for food/transport etc.

and I'd replied back that she had to be kidding as she'd be asleep for a lot of the time.

her reply (and she was a friend, so this was fine) was

"cool - so I can bring my boyfriend over, we can have s*x most of the night, stay up late drinking and sleep in right?"

Her view was that if she was on the premises and on call then she was providing a service (security, safe children) and needed paying.

Does that help?

Not sure if you were looking to pay the 11 per hour or more or less :-)

Weekend pay for nanny

Hi,

My husband and I are going away for the weekend.

Our nanny will be looking after the children.

We leave at around 10 on the Saturday and return around 5 on the Sunday.

Any ideas on a fair amount to pay her? Her hourly rate is £11 after tax.

Thoughts greatly appreciated!

Estelle
