If she has been with you for a few years, i.e. since your children were babies and they love her and are very settled with her then I wouldn't touch her pay or even mention it!

Finding a great nanny who fits in with your family life and who your children love to be with is so so so hard and just not worth saving a few pounds over.

Is the job the same and are her duties the same? When was the last time you gave her a pay rise / bonus?
Is your child being effected?
Are you willing for he to find Another family?

I would ask myself these question before making a decision and if you value your nanny and can afford to pay her then do so - 40% is a stupid pay decrease!!!! Have you had a chat with her to see what she would be happy to work for ?? May be a better idea than asking strangers!!!

Good nannies can be few and far between - and will cost you time and more money in the long run.

I would like to add more on the topic , my Nanny has been with us 3 years and her little girl is the same age as our little girl and we have a 5 year old. I just don't want to be unfair towards her!

I would say yes to a pay drop. As with any job if you are working then you need to find your own childcare. In this instance childcare for your nanny would be expensive. This way it allows her to work and look after her own child. I may sound harsh when I say this but if she then became a low income worker she will be entitled to other benefits such has housing benefit and tax credits.

40% off the current wage ???? she gets £10 per hour. How would she live on that?

It would depend for me if the children were very similar ages, they can then play. If the nanny’s child is very young I wouldn’t entertain as your child would get less attention.

30/40 % off the current wage seems right.

I don’t think it is fair to expect a family to pay their nanny the same amount if she is bringing her child to work, regardless of what hourly rate she is on. I have a few friends who have been in the same situation and I think they mutually agreed to reduce the hourly rate by 25-30%.

Given she’s not on a high rate anyway I wouldn’t drop her hourly rate if you value her!

Thank you for replying it really helps! She s on that rate anyways but most employers drop the hourly rate once the Nanny brings her child in.
