Not sure if he does Chemistry (he does most subjects, including Latin!) but you should contact Des at http://www.oconnorassessment.com - Cambridge grad, Ed Psych, fab with kids. He mostly does assessment work and helps kids with SEN's but is local and takes selected tutoring work. Good luck, and never pay over £80 an hour for tutor!!!

Wow that is an insane amount of money. The maximum I have ever paid was 80 Pounds per hour but the chap was doing a PhD at Oxford! Incidentally, I found him through word of mouth or I would not have paid that much.

No, you certainly don't need to spend a three-figure sun to engage a tutor - even a carefully matched and highly trained tutor - for your daughter! You could use one of the tutor directory sites, or contact an agency like JK Educate that carefully recruits and trains its tutors. Try Gabbitas Education. I've used them on more than one occasion. They are very reasonably priced and were able to find me an amazing Biology tutor for my daughter during her A Levels.

There are also some summer programmes that are supposed to work wonders for the kids. Maybe check out Varsity Education? I've heard they are good.

Wow! That is ridiculous! I used PASS Tutors (Wandsworth/Balham) based for my daughter. The tutor was great and really helped Amelie with her maths GCSE. I’m fairly sure they go up to A level and they were much more reasonable!

Try the website Tutorfair. They have tutors with a wide variety of hourly rates. Some are ridiculously high, but some are fairly reasonable. We have tried a couple at around the £40-50 mark. There are quite a lot of (mainly post grad) university students advertising themselves there. We have one who seems to be very effective.

Does this not seem excessive ? I have been quoted up to £340 per hour for a tutor for A Level chemistry. I think I am looking in the wrong place (!) and would appreciate any guidance in taking on a tutor to help my daughter
