I agree, perspective is definitely required. To compare ear piercing to female circumcision is completely ridiculous.

I am fully aware that ear piercing is something that most people have very set opinions on - which is precisely why my question was if anyone knew of a place where I could get my lil ones' ears pierced, and not what people actually thought of the idea of it.

Yes, it is traditional in some cultures etc etc... I am not about to list the reasons as to why I want my daughter's ears pierced right now, nor do I believe it is anywhere near the same as female circumsicion!!
We need to get a bit of perspective!!

Thank you to those who've posted and tried to be helpful! :D

Hi,

I come from a country where it is traditional to pierce girls ears as soon as they are born. They recommend that you do it in the first few days after they are born while they sleep and usually they don't even wake up. By the time they are 3 months it's a different story, as they will cry (mostly because they don't like to be held down). But it takes just a few seconds and mine cried a lot less and less hard than when they had their immunizations. They stopped crying as soon as they were free to move their heads again.

The recommendation is that you don't wait much longer than three months as later on it becomes really difficult to do because they move a lot and holding them down is really difficult. That would make it really traumatic and it's best avoided. They told us to do it by three months or wait until they are 10 years old.

I agree with Abevillemummy.

I couldn't even think about inflicting pain on a 3 month old.

Shocked due to the unecessary pain involved I guess! As mothers, we do everything we can to protect our children.

Female Circumcision is also a tradition in some cultures and I would be shocked if someone wanted to put their child through that aswell!

Ear piercing is purely cosmetic, and therefore do not understand why anyone would put their baby through that pain, tradition or not.

Im not to sure where else apart from Claire's.

Its completely up to u, obviously as its ur child and ur her mum...
But I wouldnt piece my babies ears, just purely because I feel the child should make up there own mind if they want there ears pierced or not when they are older.

Good luck

Why are you shocked? In some cultures it's traditional to get girl's ears pierced as very young babies.

Am totally shocked! Simply don't know what to say to this post (or actually I do, but fear that it may turn obscene!) :o
