Agree with the other posts that parts of Brooklyn are most similar to Northcote Rd.
Park Slope is the original child-friendly Brooklyn neighbourhood, Manhattan families started moving there en masse about ten years ago. Since then the family vibe has spread to nearby areas like Cobble Hill, Boerum Hill, Carroll Gardens, Ft Greene and Brooklyn Heights.
You will find Manhattan neighbourhoods are not as villagey as Brooklyn, but there are lots of families living in the West Village, Tribeca, Upper East and Upper West Sides.
Highly recommend Brooklyn though. Good luck and enjoy!
