The city mapper app is really good for giving you all the different options available.

Also consider, if you have a bit more money to spare and also can do work emails on your phone, the shared "minicab" services. They are like Uber, but you may or may not share your ride with others. And you pay much less than an Uber.

Two that I recommend looking into (you'll need to go into the app before you get a price) are Viavan and citymapper (only evening commutes).

eg tube costs me £2.50+ and requires 45 mins home and a platform change and no seat. Viavan takes the same time, for £5.90, but it's a comfortable ride and i can get 4g so can leave work 45 mins early and do emails.

Thanks Trainspotter! I will start testing this out real soon. What about waterloo changeover then - do you go out and along the main concourse or down and underneath the trains?

I'm going to sound like a trainspotter here.

Get the train to Waterloo from Platform 10 at Clapham Junction. Best to head to rear of train where you tend to get on more easily.

Trains also run to Waterloo from from platforms 3 and 4 but recommend platform 10 as it is closer.

When you get on the Waterloo and City line at Bank I recommend you get on the rear of the train. Tends to have more room

Similarly when you get on the Waterloo and City line at Bank to come home then try to get on near the front of the train.

That enables you to easily get the Clapham Junciton trains from platforms 1 to 5 inclusive.

You rarely miss trains.

Good luck

Cjdad - many thanks. Do you have to miss trains at waterloo and at bank before you can get on?

Train from Clapham Junction to Waterloo and then Waterloo and City Line to Bank.

I do it everyday and it is far more reliable than the tube from Clapham South

Dear all,
What’s the best way of getting from Clapham Junction or Clapham South to Bank/Monument/Liverpool str for 9am?

I am starting a new job shortly that means i need to travel from Northcote road to Bank/Monument, in rush hour (to be there before 9am). Going early is not an option due to childcare constraints.

I have not had to travel to city or at rush hour for many years now but i’ve seen terrible queues yo get on trains at that time of day. Any recommendations?

I guess the choices are:
Clapham south - Monument vs
Clapham junction - Waterloo - Bank
