You don't have to have any formal qualifications to become a teaching assistant, although it does help to have had some experience with children, which you seem to already, having been a nanny.

There is a KS1 position available here https://www.newtonprepschool.co.uk/830/employment

Days are long but it's a very fulfilling job.

I would suggest looking on the local council website. Your experience and knowledge may qualify you. A good way to gain experience is to volunteer at a school.
Good luck.

Hi all,

I am looking to become a teaching assistant but have no idea where to start. I have worked as a nanny for 3 years but have had no school experience. I cannot afford a course but am really interested in doing an apprenticeship in a primary school in wandsworth/Lambeth but as of yet I haven't found any so am a bit stuck as what to do.

does anyone know any schools that would be willing to train me?

any advice would be gladly appreciated.

thanksĀ
