Re: clapham playground

I agree. We’ve lost half the playing area and it’s now very crowded and harder to keep an eye on children.

I don’t understand the rationale for fencing off a huge portion of the playground. The sign says it’s to protect the three central plane trees from damage, but why does the fenced off area have to be so huge?

And I also wonder why there was no mention of this in the consultations about the new playground.

I totally agree - it feels a bit squashed in the middle. And the line of vision when you have more than one child to look after is hard as a result especially when busier.

I’m also disappointed that there aren’t barriers around the swings like there used to be. My son already got hit by a swing. I often feel these places are designed by people who don’t use playgrounds...

Also I think I read somewhere that the area fenced off was because they were worried about tree branches falling?

The playground looks bright and shiny however was it really necessary to annexe half of it to protect trees which could have been protected in other ways ,losing an area where children could run around and indulge them selves in the sandpit seems unfair .

It has in effect halved the space so parents are now much much closer together not ideal in these covid times .
Could the council look again this ?
