Have you considered moving North to Batley Guy? They have a grammar school there where your kids and yourself will feel more at home.

I have to agree it is a rubbish song (although written by school kids so you have to be careful not to rubbish it too much). Also technically “Britain” is just England and Wales. “Great Britain” includes Scotland and if you include Northern Ireland we’re the United Kingdom. That aside, I agree it’s just a propaganda tool to discourage Scotland from leaving - does anyone else see the irony of a PM who was hell-bent on us leaving one successful Union being so against Scotland doing the same thing? I’m all in favour of patriotism - we must be the least patriotic country on the planet - but our lack of patriotism and disdain for rubbish like this is what makes us British.

There is already one Britain; it's comprised of four nations, not one.

And why should the queen retire? I'm not a royalist but I'm resigned to the status quo and I far prefer her Maj to that pathetic, bugger-lugged loon Charles.

To:  GuyD73.  What’s wrong with promoting …  One Britain, One Nation?   Isn’t that what everyone should be striving for?  You might not encourage your children to strive for it, but I certainly would - & perhaps your children might like to choose themselves as to whether they sing it or not. The lyrics might be naff – but we unquestionably don’t have a One Britain, One Nation now in the UK.  With the country a patchwork of ethnic ghettoes, in which many believe in their culture only, & some making no effort at all to integrate, it’s at least a start to achieving the goal of unity (even though it’s doubtful it will succeed). As the Sikh campaign originator says ‘…. We need to create a spirit of oneness and togetherness, to showcase that we’re all one people of this country regardless of where you’re from.”   So true.   What could be more admirable than that? There needs to be a new national anthem – along similar lines.   What we have at the moment is an antiquated paean to a 95 year old woman who should have retired decades ago (but, hey, it’s only the enlightened European monarchs who do that).  It’s no wonder fewer & fewer people sing it. I definitely support the concept of a One Britain Nation …..  but, sadly, I doubt it will ever be achieved.

This article pretty much says it all. I've already emailed the head and told my kids if they are asked to sing it, to refuse and for us to be called. The UK sinks into greater Brexity desperation every day. Sickening.
