Hi there

I've learnt recently that different supplements can impact how your body absorbs other vitamins and minerals and so sometimes it's best to chat to a naturopath to get advice and they can also give you access to a better quality of supplement. (I was using a vitamin D supplement from a local supplier until I learnt that it was the equivalent to the floor sweepings from a factory and that a different supplement in drop format was far better for me.

There are lots of naturopaths around but I can recommend Natrolive.

To the OP:  Who told you to '... get some tablets'??  Your GP?  When I had my child 44 years ago, pregnant women were told to stuff down their throats iron tablets.  At the time, controversial, & many refused.  Instead, why don't you eat foods rich in iron, such as dark green leafy veg., particularly spinach (it worked for Popeye), beans & lentils, fortified breakfast cereals, nuts, dried fruit, even eggs (if u eat them), etc.  There's a whole list of them out there.  Don't be pushed into taking supplements if you don't really need them.  But, if you do, go to a proper pharmacy, & not a drug store like Boots.

Have a look at Cytoplan Food Grown Iron.

Fantastic quality supplements. Look at food grown as much more gentle on the stomach.

Great quality with no “rubbish” in them.

Another vote for Spatone! I either take the original in orange juice (vitamin C helps with iron absorption) or the apple flavoured one which I find strangely tasty! Very easy to take and doesn’t hurt your digestion. There are also iron mouth sprays you can get from health food shops (I can’t remember the brand offhand but they do various different vitamin sprays.) but Spatone is great and my iron levels (I’m also vegetarian) have gone back to normal since I’ve been taking it. You can but it in supermarkets. Look for a blue box in the supplements/medicine aisle.

I too take Spa Tone and am vegetarian - I take the one with vitamin c which is apple flavour as vitamin c enhances the uptake of iron. You drink it like a shot! Hope it improves soon 😃

Try spa tone which come in liquid sachets. You can add it to orange juice and that increases the potency of the iron intake. You should notice a difference within a few days if not sooner.

I am vegetarian and my iron levels are low (not anaemic just low) so I have been told to get some tablets. Are there good v not so good brands? If so would anyone be able to share? There are so many when I go into Boots or look online. Much appreciated.
