Re: Fake Grass

I've just today had our artificial grass laid by www.lazylawn.co.uk and email: south@lazylawn.co.uk - they took two days to lay a small area 4m x 3m which included removing an old patio, levelling the foundations, re-concreting the base, fitting the metal edging, laying the lawn and pressing down with sand. Very happy with the work and final result. Would recommend.

There are lots of brands out there. Ours isn’t Easigrass - I can’t remember what it is but we’ve had it for nearly nine years and it still looks as good as new. You definitely don’t want to try laying it yourself though. It’s a complicated process and the ground needs to be flat otherwise you’ll see the joins. People (like Chorister) are very sniffy about it but while it’s plastic (bad), on the plus side you don’t waste electricity mowing the lawn and you don’t waste water (and have to use fertiliser) encouraging grass to grow.

Most places that sell carpet / flooring also sell artificial grass! I think you should get someone to lay it properly cos it requires a proper basement membrane to drain properly and not have problems in the future. Good luck!

Of course you can get real grass to grow if you really want to.  And if you really can't, then employ a professional gardener to sort it out and teach you how to maintain it.

No matter what we do we cannot get our grass to grow and are resigned to switching to plastic grass. Are there any other brands other than EasiGrass that anyone can recommend and is it essential to get someone to lay it, I know that you have to lay sand/silt as a base... I am just not sure if it is a false economy to try to do it yourself. Any suggestions much appreciated.
