Have a chat with David at SwitchedOn London. He is the oracle round here on all things heat pumps and he’d be able to tell you if your house was suitable for one.

Just to follow up .. don’t be a d#ck and get a log burner . It’s anti-social for your road and neighbours . You can burn smokeless wood legally in london so long as it’s installed by professional installers it’s fine.. ..but it still stinks the entire road out when we have low or no winds . Some d#ck a road over has one and its smell so bad .. you are still creating Co2, NGO, CO, NOx, it’s polluting the lungs of your family and neighbours . A proper gas fire is much better for you and your neighbours

Agreed .. stick with gas… it works and efficient. I pay £150-200 a month for gas & elec in a 5 bed renovated Victorian house . Install a good system boiler , good pressurised water tank, a nest thermostat, double glazing and obviously good insulation where possible. But a Victorian house , is 140 yrs old .. so inevitably it’s not ultra sealed and air leaks happen .. from what I’ve read heat pumps & air pumps are a con in a Victorian property. They are also ugly, take up space in your 5mx5m size garden, outrageously expensive and they make a humm noise . Complete con.

I would stick with gas.

Gas is much quicker to get the required heat and you won’t get a £250 annual maintenance charge to service it.(£60 ish for a boiler)

Heatpumps in London?

Hi
We're slowly exploring new boiler options and I'm assuming heat pumps aren't a thing for our London terraced houses - is that true?

Is it also true that log burners are also no longer allowed?

Thanks in advance.
