I have hosted a baby shower and my husband's b'day party in the private room upstairs in The Avalon, just by Clapham South. It's owned by the same guys who own The Bolingbroke and The Abbeville so the food is good.

There is no room hire charge for the room, it seats about 22 for a proper sit down dinner, or they can move the table and do a fork buffet / canapés for a larger group. They're very flexible on menu/budget so you can go as simple / smart as you like. They also have high chairs.

The room has its own cloakroom and loo, as well as a dedicated waitress and there's a HUGE screen, so we put up pix etc for the baby shower and my husband's 30th.

Balham Bowls Club has a much bigger function room upstairs. It's quite "shabby chic", not everyone's taste but I think it's got character.

We held our son's Christening lunch in the private room upstairs at the County Arms on Trinity Road - but the edge of Wandsworth Common. Its free to hire, service was good - obviously just have to pay food and drink. But its large and airy (with windows all round and high ceilings) - we had about 30+ up there. Food is reasonable - good pub grub, not a gourmet standard though but everyone was happy.

We have just had our son's Christening Sunday lunch at the abbeville on abbeville road, clapham common. We hired the upper and lower mezzanines and it was brilliant! I can't recommend it more highly. Hope this helps.

After my daughter's christening last year, we all went for lunch at The Bolingbroke on Northcote road. Child friendly, delicious food (fab portions) and fantastic service! xx

I would have a look at all the local town halls / Church halls, they are usually available on Sundays and are pretty cheap. I know there is a really good one in Wimbledon especially. Chelsea Old Church has the Petyt Hall which is a fab venue (just by Battersea Bridge).

If you are looking for a caterer, I have my own catering company, based in Battersea, called Scarlett's Pantry. Have a look at my website www.scarlettspantry.co.uk

I do lots of Christening lunches / teas, and have lots of delicious and fun ideas. I also make Christening cakes and cupcakes.

Please do get in touch if you are interested in talking further. My email address is scarlett@scarlettspantry.co.uk or call me on 07733 226 619.

Scarlett's Pantry is a boutique catering company creating homemade and scrumptious dishes and cakes.

Wondering if anyone has a recommendation as to where we could hold a lunch following the christening of our daughter?

For our son's christening we had everyone back at ours, but since then everyone's been busy having children and our place will be more than a squeeze especially given we're unlikely to be able to use the garden...

Looking for somewhere that won't break the bank, is child friendly and available on a sunday lunchtime.

Thanks!
