Straight line is straight line no matter what lies between you and the school. Basically, there will be a clear circle (catchment area) for each school. it will be like 300 meters outward.

Lambeth already does this. Hence why their catchment areas seem so small... (or at least I think that is why).

Just following up with something mentioned earlier does walking route with street lighting exclude going across the common? Surely it doesn't? There are cycle paths with street lights going straight across Clapham common and I assume Wandsworth too?

Also does this new plan mean that you can hop over the garden fence if you back onto a school playground........

What is the centre of the school? The buildings? The whole site?

good and bad news, the good news is that the admissions team responded to my query this morning.

unfortunately at this point they could only advise on the straightline from the school gate, as their system isn't yet set up for the central point of the school site. makes sense since they are managing the lists for 2012 admission, so i'll ask when their system will be set up for the 2013 admissions.

after my initial horror - i've realised that this might actually be better for us!

can't wait for the council's response.

i phoned this morning, and they told me to email my request - and i got a bounceback telling me it would take 18-21 working days to process my request...

still, they are managing the lists for the recently announced admissions at the moment so it must be pretty hectic over there.

If you call the council, they should be able to provide you your distance from the local schools. That will give you the best indication.

As I posted before, it effects all schools. It is also easier for the council to manage as lit walk can change yearly, this won't.

how is "school site" defined? seems quite important in some instances.

I've not downloaded every link but it looks like the straight line approach has been adopted.

I know this is an incendiary subject but looking specifically at Belleville, the admission criteria states:

[i]"The straight-line measurement used to prioritise applicants for admission to schools in Wandsworth commences in all cases at the location of the property determined by the National Land Planning Gazetteer and terminates at the central point of the school site as determined by Wandsworth Council’s Geographical Information System."[/i]

Does this mean that admission to the Meteor site will be measured from there rather than from the Belleville site?

I contacted Wandsworth about this issue and they said the results of the consultation will be on the website on May 1st. Hopefully the information they publish will also clear up which types of school are changing their method of measuring distance (community, VA etc) and whether the other schools are likely to follow suit before the Sep 2013 intake.

It's slightly confusing but it does say

"As part of this consultation, the Council is requesting that the Governing Bodies of Foundation, Voluntary Aided schools and Academies in the borough, for which measurements are provided by the Council, agree to adopt a straight line measurement in the school's oversubscription criteria for 2013/14".

So it sounds to me like the current consultation applies to community schools and a handful of the other types of schools (the exact list is on the website) but that the Council would like to see [u]all[/u] Foundation, VA schools and Academies (i.e those not under the control of the education authority) adopt the same approach.

If anyone else is clearer on the issue, it would be helpful to know.

Anyone know if 'academies' are affected? Specifically wondering about Belleville - which is now an academy rather than community
