If you're having other work done then you could consider getting the flooring yourself. We got our flooring direct from Jordan's opposite Wimbledon Stadium. They have a huge range of solid and engineered flooring. The saving over the specialist flooring companies was a serious amount of cash. If you have a general builder then laying a wooden or engineered board floor isn't that hard.

Just wanted to thank whoever recommended Phil at PJ Pine www.pjpine.co.uk on this thread. I know its an old one but I used it last week to find someone to sand and stain our victorian floorboards and Phil was great.

He was patient and helpful when I was dithering over colours and finish, reasonably priced and our floors look lovely. I would recommend him too.

I agree it's so important to get a company that sorts outs the little problems and finishing touches after the bulk of the work is done. We got our bedroom floor done a few months ago and used Acacia Wood Floors in Tooting (info@acaciawoodenfloors.co.uk).
Albert did a very good job, although it took longer than initially planned. We had a bit of an argument over the finishing touches but fair play to him - albeit grudgingly :) - he came back and completed the work as we wanted it. In the end the floor looks amazing and there are no short-cuts in quality from those guys - and price wise they were quite competitive.

One problem I have found with The Wooden Floor Specialists in Balham is that it can be hard work getting them out to sort out snagging. Lots of stalling, chasing up needed and wasted time when they don't turn up as promised or don't call back as promised. This seems to be their tactic if they don't want to deal with something. If there's a problem with the fitting they have (with me anyway) resorted to a variety of 'fob offs' if putting it right would be troublesome for them. They fitted floors in a couple of rooms for us. One room went better than the other with only minor snagging. The other room had more complications. For example, they fitted Junkers flooring on steps with the stair 'nosings' raised up creating a trip hazard on each step. They told me this was how it was supposed to be fitted. I had to talk to Junckers technical department and get guidance from them on how steps are supposed to be fitted before I could (with some assertiveness) get The Wooden Floor specialists to put it right. They did so in the end so it could have been worse but it can be quite wearing getting things sorted out by them!

Hi everyone and happy easter to you all. So just an update, i went for a coffee last week at the Brew, it turns out the wooden floor specialists laid the floor in there and I had a word with Ben one of the owners. The floor looks fantastic and Ben really rates them. I must admit the floor in Brew still looks good after a couple of years and you can imagine the wear and tear they must get in there. After much thought and a few nights with a few glasses of wine we have given the job to Barry and Chris at the wooden floor specialists on Cavendish Road. I will of course let you know how we get on. After visiting the showroom we were somewhat overwhelmed by the amount of choice in there. Eventually we opted for an engineered oak plank which they are going to hand finish to our own choice of colour. We will have this fitted over the next 2 weeks so will keep you all posted.

Its hard work all this but I need to get it right as we are doing the whole house. Thanks again for your help.

This topic seems to come up a lot - think this is the third time I've recommended the brilliant Alex at Alex Wood Floors : [url]http://www.alexwoodfloor.co.uk

He did a really great job, everyone who comes over asks who did our floors.

Try Phil at PJ Pine www.pjpine.co.uk for the floor sanding. He did a fantastic job on our Victorian floorboards. Just to warn you, he can sound quite vague on the phone and I don't think he writes anything down, but he has the most incredible memory. A lovely guy too.

I felt the same about the Cavendish floor people's attitude. But we went with them anyway and were really pleased with the floor they laid for us.

I'm also looking for wooden flooring.

Just looking through these posts, wanted to raise awareness of the recommendations for the place on Old York Road - Woodrow Flooring....one is highly suspicious - 'Susan' posted on the same day on a different thread, telling us that 'they' (i.e. woodrow flooring) have moved location...so she is actually Woodrow Flooring rather than a client as made out here.

Other post from SP Mum recommending this place also a bit suspicious as she joined and posted on the same day - though has posted on other subjects too so possible she's a genuine client who they've asked to post if happy with their work.

Hi!

We had wooden floors fitted in December and we used Floors For Thought (they are located on Battersea Rise, very close to Northcote Road): http://www.floorsforthought.co.uk/

They did a good job - our floors (and stairs) look very nice. No problems so far. Our fitter was called Zoltan, he should accept independent jobs if you are only after someone doing the fitting. His number is: 07730 230 672.

We have just had Albert/ Acacia wooden floors who are based in Tooting - I cannor recommend them highly enough. He worked with me for 3-4 months during the end part of the build to advise on flooring and helping us to choose what we wanted/ was most suitable. Albert works on his own - not for a big company - and therefore lives by his reputation. Just look the company up on the internet - there are literally hundreds of positive reviews.

The job was done entirely at my convenience and we have a beautiful engineered oak, grey washed wooden floor throughout the downstairs which i adore!

Hello, we are looking for a decent flooring company to fit engineered wooden flooring throughout our property. Any recommendations ? We are located off of Northcote Road and ideally would like a fairly local company.

I have also just had a new wood floor fitted in my hall and dining room by Woodrow Flooring on Old York Road and am absolutely thrilled with it. www.woodrow-hardwood-flooring.com

They listened to what I wanted to do and were really positive - no sucking through teeth - fitted the floor quickly and carefully with lots of focus on the detail and most importantly they were happy to work around our lives. For example we discussed and negotiated the times that I wouldn't be able to walk on the floor around my kids sleep times - thankfully it was only 30 mins we had to keep of it. They ensured that the tools were always safely out of the way of my two kids, and were always friendly when the children just wanted to watch or talk! They even cleaned up every night before they went home.

Woodrow Flooring really were excellent and the floor looks fantastic, I would definitely recommend them.
