On the advice of one of my clients I bought a Fire Angel Carbon monoxide monitor - details here: http://www.fireangel.co.uk/Carbon-Monoxide-Alarms.aspx

I have a couple of tips that you may find useful when choosing a carbon monoxide alarm for your home:-

- before buying a CO alarm, always made sure it is officially approved (it must have a British or European approval mark on it, such as a Kitemark).

- Audible CO alarms are the best (don't use the 'black spot' detectors that change colour when CO is present as these won't make a sound to wake you up if the poisonous gas is present while you are sleeping).

This website provides lots of information about CO and alarms:-

My personal preference is the Honeywell h450 alarm:-

ours is on a wall just outside the kitchen
so near the boiler & cooker but not too close
we just followed the instructions on the pack
not sure where we bought it - probably B&Q or screwfix

Thanks Helen. Very helpful.

Goldhawk - just wondering what alarm people might recommend, where best to position, anything else that's important to consider when fitting them....bit vague I know!

As far as I can tell, it's important to have them outside bedrooms and not too close to the boiler as this might obscure the reading...but any other advice gratefully received!

Hi
I have the one below on the side in my kitchen. I bought it from British Gas when I had my annual service. You can buy them elsewhere, but this seemed like an average price.

Is that any help?

Hi,

We've had our house renovated and I want to install carbon monoxide alarms. I've read a bit about it on the internet but just wondered if anyone had done this and had some advice.....

Thanks
