Re: Builder recommendations for extension?

Stay away from SD Realm - we had a total disaster.

Things were going really well in the beginning Last summer and everything seemed to be on schedule until all hell broke loose and we were stranded during winter with a leaking roof and broken bi-fold doors no real kitchen and freezing house with a toddler.....(Supposed to finish end of August and we are STILL - in May 2012 - trying to complete unfinished decorating now with the help of other builders). One of the worst experiences of my life and I have never been that close to depression!

The guy who runs it (Daniel) seemed oh so professional at the beginning with daily updates and always replying emails and taking calls. He then disappeared. My son got a chest infection from the cold and dust, I lost a stone. His tradesmen complained that they weren't paid and walked out. We wanted a loft conversion and a side extension - we got both in the end, thanks to other builders we are happy with the result but I would NEVER recommend the Co and regret doing so in the beginning. Hope none of you have a similar experience.

Hello there,

I can highly recommned A-Loft. They have been trading in SW London for over 25 years. They did my loft in my previous house, and also did my extension to my kitchen last year. I have had no issue, and the quality of workmanship is excellent. They are also on hand for updates, and progress reports, and the project Marc, is reliable and always on the other end of the phone if you need him.

We have used, for our loft conversion and kitchen extension (it was a side return), mylondonextensions based in Clapham.
I can't describe how great they are with such a good service and competitive price.
Always available, happy to help with advices that saved us so much money (and don't worry, the quality of their works is top notch!)
Their website is www.mylondonextensions.com (double check on google for the spelling) and David's number, their director, is 07 990 856 830.
Good luck!

Hi there

UpsherHarrison are good and have just finished one in Clapham Junction- they specialise in loft & basement conversions in Battersea. I spoke to previous clients after getting a competitive quote from them and they are happy to show you their previous work. I'd highly recommend them. Nick and Rob the directors are both ex surveyors and have a real attention to detail - one of them is always on site. They delivered on time and to budget and we met with them weekly to track progress so always knew exactly what was happening.

Their website is upsherharrison.com or you can contact Robert Harrison on 07828 181 738 for a free quote. If you do mention me :-)

Hope this helps

x

Falcon builders are fantastic! We use them for everything from moving internal walls, kitchen extensions and loft conversions. It is an English family business, very reliable and efficient. John Ford can be reached on: 07956 874584.

I would stay away from South London Lofts - we had them round for a quote and when I (very politely) told the guy that we were going with someone else (more than 10k cheaper) he had a go at me for basically wasting his time. He came round once for about 15 mins.

There is probably not much point in recommending our builder as he has jobs on until August so probably can't fit anyone in.

Jared Ogilvy (07828 811 767) has done extensions / loft conversions for 3 of our friends and done a great job each time.

Premier Lofts. Malcolm Newman 07831371948. Did ours in 1999. Brilliant. On time and on budget. Lovely to deal with. Still do many in the area and kitchens too now. Hope helpful.

Galvin Lofts & Renovations has just finished a kitchen extension and were amazing. They gave us the best price and finished the work early (project took under 8 weeks). I really can't recommend them enough. The team were polite and nothing seemed to be too much trouble. Jason had great ideas as to what would and wouldn't work and we are so pleased with the end result. They also did the garden work for us.

Best of all Jason (who owns the company) is on site loads, answers emails almost instantly and was on time for every appointment we arranged. He also explained every step really clearly.

Thank you for all the recommendations. I have Kevin from Regus Builders and Simply Extensions to quote so far and both seem very good. Now I need to get on to the garden...

I would try either:

Philip Nicholson at Nicholson Renovations (Fulham based) on
07836 336 467
or Rory Gordon at Good London Builders (Clapham based) on 07720 880 610

Kind regards

We are currently using Simply Extensions for our side return and I honestly cannot recommend them highly enough. They've been seriously quick, efficient, always on the end of a phone when we've got any questions and we have regular meetings each week to update us on progress and they've been brilliant. They were also the only quote we could afford out of 3, so we thought excellent value for money and looks like we're going to come in on budget with no nasty surprises. We will definitely use them again for other work in our house and have been so pleased with their work so far.

We used Prometheus Builders a couple of years back. Vladimir and his team were always clean tidy honest and respectful.

We will definately use them again for future projects. The added bonus with this company is that they are FMB members so we also got a 10 year warranty (costed at 10% of value of project) backed by the FMB.

Check them out

I would also be interested in any recommendations for good, sensibly priced builders. We live in Earlsfield and are looking into getting a straightforward playroom extension built on the back of our kitchen. Some of the websites we've looked at seem to feature amazing looking extensions in expensive areas, which have put us off a bit to be honest, as we don't have the budget of someone with a swanky pad in Chelsea!!

Thanks
