We had a mouse problem for a while, just after our new neighbours started some building work! I called out one company from Yellow Pages who were useless and then resorted to Rentokil - the first person they sent was also useless but after complaining I got sent one of their "top" people and he was great - worked out where they were coming from and blocked up all the holes - and laid down poison (but in void spaces out of reach of children). That seemed to do the trick but as an extra precaution we got a cat and touch wood have been mouse-free ever since....

We had a problem after building work. I had a lady from Microbee come round and she checked for any holes that a pencil could fit through and sealed up with wire wool and expanding foam. You need the mixture so that if they eat the expanding foam the wire wool then helps to kill them. Especially need to check around any pipes and anyway you might have cavities (I became obsessed with getting rid of them).

After mice being everywhere in the house we have now been mice free for 18 (happy) months! Good luck!

I have to say go with the Ultrasonic ones but go for the better ones that transmit the signal along the electrical wires as well for better penetration.

They really do work - Just make sure you don't plug them in where the sound is going to be blocked by furniture.

We went from loads of mice to none in 2 weeks with these.

I live in a flat, top 2 floors local to Northcoate Road and my Battersea Rescue Cats (well past mousing age) caught a mouse even before I had any idea they were infesting the house. We have now had 2 mice slayed by the old cats and it's messy, but great, just the way nature intended. Can't recomend enough a) rehoming cats from Battersea and b) having nature's best mouse repellant a cat! As a side, I have had the sonic plug ins, with mixed results.

We have a mouse problem too and everywhere I go in the house I seem to see mouse poo.Its freaking me out. There is an empty decaying house next door to us and I assume they are coming from there.
Regarding the ultrasonic devices-I'm interested but I have an 11 month old girl and I've heard that babies can near the high pitched noise they emit and its not pleasant.
Has anyone else heard of this problem with ultrasonic mice devices and little babies?

PLEASE DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THOSE ELECTRONIC ULTRASOUND PLUGS! THEY DO NOT WORK!!!!

I recently had a horrible mouse problem. I too laid down traps and got a few it was disgusting! I also live in a first floor flat and was so bewildered as to how they could come in!
I called the professionals in. A company called Protex- who make 3 visits over a 6 week period. It turns out a property which has been unoccupied for years is currently being renovated. Guess what? the little buggers thought they would come over to me instead! They laid down bait boxes with poison, which are completely safe if you have kids, as only the company can open them with a special key. They nibble at the poison and die, but you could find them anywhere in your house! I found one, who had eaten the poison. Keep the floors and worktops free of food, and eventually they will get the message. They generally keep coming back if they find food.

You can buy bait boxes from B&Q and laid them down yourself before you do anything. Remember if you can get a pencil through the hokle, then a mouse can get through it! Cover any holes with wired wool, that's the only thing they can't chew through.

We had a mouse recently and I called out Pest Protect (08000567231). They come and put down poison etc and on the second visit they fill any holes the mice come through. If you help them out and pull out washing machines etc so that can see all around they seal it and that should be the end of that...
They ask you to pay on the first visit (£129) and I found it a little tricky booking the return visit - I left loads of messages and in the end I managed to get hold of someone. I would suggest you book both appointments over the phone at once with a week or ten days apart.

ive had them all winter!!! and like yours they dont take peanut butter or chocolate, glue traps dont work - they manage to skirt around them even when ive put them where ive seen them run - along skirtings for example. and i see them at the same time as you - watching TV late at night in semi darkness. they seem to have gone now but of their own accord not from me being able to trap them. i used the plug in sonic deterrents and ive a lovely picture of a mouse poking his head out from under the sofa about a metre away from the device! poison is a problem - have you ever smealt 'dead mouse' rotting under the floorboards for 6 weeks - not nice..............

we're on belleville road and had a big problem when our cat died. eventually got recommended Michael on 07872 130096. sorted.

Mice can squeeze through a gap the size of the side of a coin. We got a countryside house that was crawling with mice when we moved in and getting a cat seems to keep the problem right down. When we left a room closed off for a while the mice got in (did't help that someone had hidden a cream egg in the cupboard!) so now we leave the cat with access all areas and she chose to spend a few days stalking in that room-think they are gone from there now.
Seems to be the smell of the cat that's a deterent to the mice moving in but over the years have found some cats are more effective than others. Also found friends with allergies react to some cats and not others.
Regarding the distance to take them before they find their way back; I caught a shrew that was insisting it lived on the sofa. I walked three times to a field at the end of the garden and each time it raced me home and came in under the door. In the end I had to get a friend to destroy it- felt really guilty-perhaps I should have just given it some popcorn and put a film on for it....

Chocolate definitely worked for me when we ha mice in our old place. I even saw a mouse run into the trap before my very eyes . Not nice but it got rid of them. Good luck.

Wire wool or tin foil placed in any gap / hole will stop them coming in as they really don't like it, it's too scratchy for them! A mouse can squeeze through a hole the size of a pencil but it won't bother if there is tin foil blocking the route.

Try putting the sonic plugs on every floor inc the loft if you have power up there... worked in our 4 storey house!! But if you like cats then I guess that sounds like a good option!

I agree Sharon. Like I recommended earlier, best way of getting rid of mice is one or two cats from Battersea Dogs Home.

I have also tried the sonic plug in things and in a three storey house they didn't work at all. don't waste your money, its better spent on cat food !
