Dear Cosmo mum,
What a happy coincidence - this is the first time I've sat down with my IT expert husband to look at this website!
Mr IT loves Macs and has given me the following answers to your questions:
1. can anyone repair it cheaper than apple store?
Probably not. There aren't a lot of people out there who can fix logic boards.
2. would anyone want to buy it and repair themselves?
This is unlikely.
3. is it better for me to just get a new one as at least it will be under warranty if something goes wrong again!
Yes and consider getting the extended warranty, Apple Care. One cheaper option (but only marginally) is to buy a refurbished macbook pro from Apple. It will come with a warranty.
I hope this helps!
