I was a member at virgin active for 5 years. Classes and crèche were great...when you could get a spot! Often you had to call up the moment the classes were available to get in. It became very frustrating and stressful especially when considering the cost! About £90 per month plus £4 per hour at the crèche. Plus you have to pay for a membership for your child - another £25 per month- or something lie that! one mum told me her gym cost was about £300 per month once you added on parking. Ouch!

I joined Clapham leisure centre after leaving virgin last year. Much better value at roughly £30 per month for annual joint membership. No crèche, sauna or hot tub but has online booking - which is MUCH better and i can spend the money i save elsewhere. Can often get in right before the class starts - which is great because I live very close. Pool is also 25m and much better than virgin's 18m pool. People are also very friendly at Clapham Leisure.

Hope this helps!

Haha thanks Clapset and juliantenniscoach, would you mind if I included your opinion in an article I am writing? Would be much appreciated but I understand if not.

Hope to hear back!
Krystina

When women aren't trying to pick me up in the gym - Virgin opposite B&Q is awesome. Massive and no one there. Great swimming pool. You can literally go there without being bothered by other humans - and we all know humans are annoying.

Don't forget Fybre on Northcote Road. Unique little gym with a wave pool and quite a few classes. Sports massage is good IMHO.

Hi Scooby doo,

Thanks for the reply, but I was looking more for quotes about people's experiences at the Clapham and Battersea gyms in the guide or ones in those areas. If I make a Balham gym guide at any point I will be sure to add you on the list! :D

Movers & Shapers gym specialises in small group personal training and opens in Balham next month on the High Road. You can add that to the list!

Hey everyone,
I've compiled a brief guide of the gyms around the Clapham and Battersea area but have reserved making judgement as I've only visited them quickly! Does anyone have any experience at any of the following gyms and wouldn't mind being quoted?

Virgin Active Clapham
Soho Gym Clapham
Nuffield Health Battersea
Clapham Leisure Centre

Many Thanks

Chrissy :D
