FYI NHS Counsellors work within same ethical framework as private ones and confidentiality is a big part of that. If the therapist is not clear about who they are sharing information with then you have a right to complain. Probably a bit late for that now but I wouldn't want you to be put off getting help for free if you are offered it!

A good place to find private therapists in your area is http://www.counselling-directory.org.uk (just check they are registered with a professional body eg BACP/UKCP)

Also remember that it is normal to try out different therapists before you choose one. Shop around and make sure you get the right person this time. As I said, I know several therapists in SW London so if you let me know the area you are in, I might be able to point you towards some good people.

Good luck.

Sam, is Martyn private? I'm very put off by the NHS. When I went to see someone off the NHS with my first child he wrote to my doctor and HV saying I was struggling to cope which was so untrue. Don't feel like there's any confidentiality with the NHS.

Many thanks for you reccomendations. I contacted a couple of people and one who assumed birth trauma meant I'd lost two babies and was very pushy on appointments! Hoping the next contact is better. Many thanks.

You might also want to chat to Vicki Scott at New Baby Co (details earlier in this thread) as she has strong connections with Chelsea & Westminster hospital and details of many professionals who may be of help. :D

Sorry to hear that. I had a similar experience and had fantastic results after CBT treatment from Martyn Bignold, based at an nhs medical centre in York Gardens.

Wish you all the best.

Gemma Farrand: gemmafarrand.com.

She's a mum too and became a hypnotherapist after her expereinces so will be very sympathetic to your feelings on this one.

She has given talks at some of my antenatal classes and is really lovely.

Good luck with it all. :)

Hi there
Sorry to hear that you have had such a terrible time. Birth can be a truly traumatic experience and it is a great idea to talk it through. I have worked with many mums in this area to help them deal with the physical and psychological impact of pregnancy, birth and motherhood.
Here's my website if you want to know more http://www.katehaigh.com
or message me if you want to have a quick chat about how I could help. I also know other therapists in the area so can give you more recommendations if you want to try out a couple of different people.
Good luck and hope you get the help you need.
Kate

I've suffered with two traumatic deliveries and would really like to release some emotional pressure off my head.

Can anyone reccomend a CBT therapist that specifically deals with birth trauma based in this area?
