Also the nursery at the Wandsworth main school is very small (only 17 children this year and mixed ages from 2 up to those starting reception next year) and alot of the children in the Wandsworth nursery are siblings who will go up into reception.

The school is really lovely and all the staff and pupils know each other well and really look after each other. It does achieve very strong academic results - but as a fully inclusive and welcoming school (for pupils and parents) - it also makes sure that each child can reach their potential and pursue their interests, what ever they are - be that sport, art, music or drama etc.

When we applied to the Roche we were also offered places at other nearby popular schools, so I wouldn't say the Roche is less popular - it just depends on what sort of school you are looking for and what's right for your child.

And to add: because the nursery in fulham tend to be filled with fulham people who then go to other schools closer to them. The keswick one tend to be filled with people from wimbledon/southfield/putney area. The wandsworth tends to be filled by wandsworth people who then stay for Reception onwards.
This year the nursery in the main building is filled 3/4 by siblings.

As the previous poster said, the roche is a very inclusive family oriented school. It is very small hence very cosy and nurturing. The school is very academic but they do it in a very subtle way in an uncompetitive spirit. The children are hence able to develop as very balanced, tolerant and respectful children/little adult. They think outside the box and have a lot of opportunities to make and share their own opinions all the while being nurtured. As they are so includive children with SEN develop brilliantly and the other children are very accepting, understandibg and inclusive. The down is that the grounds are not huge and sports is not probably as good as a school like Thomas.
Last year they all pretty much went to their first choice secondary schools (and a few at St Paul). It is a gem school.

As I mentioned Im just worried about why they don't fill the places with their own children from Nurseries and why the waiting list is not kilometrical as other private schools in the area...there is something wrong that I dont get, why other school are so more popular?? As far as I know and saw, TRch is really a lovely school!

The Roche is a very inclusive school and is very happy to welcome children with any special educational need. This is very rare for a private school which means that it is not everyone's cup of tea (particularly the people who are wanting a hugely academic education). I have a friend with two children at The Roche and she has been very happy there.

I just wonder...why having 3 nurseies they school still have places for Reception every year... Why the parents prefer other Prep ???

Old York Rd borders The Tonsleys and has a butcher, newsagent, cafes, Sainsburys local, hairdressers, dentists, beauty therapists and restaurants.

It's a lovely cobbled street with a villagey feel.

For bigger supermarkets and pharmacy the ever-improving Southside shopping centre is very close and has everything you need.

We've been here for 8 years and love it.

There are several Real Estate agents on Old York Rd which could help you in your property search but the first thing I would recommend is taking a walk around the area to see if you like the feel of it.

As an aside, there are also a number of Roche families in Southfields which is another option to consider.

I second (third? fourth?) The Tonsleys. Lots of Roche families live here and walk/bike to school. It's not the most scenic journey but it is a lovely little group of streets tucked away from the hustle and bustle of Wandsworth.

Plus, for the 20 weeks of the year that the children are not at school it's very handy to everything - trains, WW Common, Wandsworth Park, King George's, shopping etc.

The tonsleys, Oakhill Rd (East Putney) as well is v close by (houses are bigger tgan average) and around St Ann Hill all v close.

Look at the Tonsleys, try James Pendleton or Cound for houses

The Tonsleys is a nice area near the Roche School. It's the hilly area south of Wandsworth Town station. Quite a few of the roads have the word Tonsley in them - bordered by Trinity Road, East Hill and the Wandsworth one way system.

Does anyone could recommend a good area to live around The Roche school?

We are looking forward to live in the area if we get a place in The Roche school but visiting the streets around the school it doesnt seems to have good comercial area and the properties, at least the facade seems to need refurbushment. Am I walking throught the wrong streets? We really would like to live near the school and avoid using car ..
