We took our son to Thailand in January when he was 16 months old - it was amazing. We stayed in the Vijitt in Phuket but if we were to go again (which we absolutely will) we would probably stay in Hua Hin so that we only had one flight to Bangkok. We took a car seat on the plane and then could use it in the transfer car when we got there. The Thais are absolutely besotted with children - there is a special immigration aisle for families and the even the official there was all over him. The staff in the hotel could not have been more amazing and every where we went we were treated like celebrities because we had a (admittedly blond!) child with us - it was quite a shock coming back in all honesty! The first couple of nights were a bit tricky with the jet lag but I think we would just give him an ipad now! Everyone thought we were crazy to go such a long way but it was so worth it as Thailand is such a lovely place and the food is great for kids - stir fried rice/noodles/plenty of fruit etc. When I got back I really felt like we had achieved something - lots of people say children stop you travelling but we really felt that having him with us gave us so much more interaction with the locals etc. Good luck!
