Tinasan - if you are going to be pedantic perhaps you should check you are right first? Filipina is a colloquial term. In legal documents Filipino is used for both genders.

Is there a difference in price between a live in nanny and a live in housekeeper?

500-550 live out and 350 - 375 live in depending on number of children and size of house - plus flight home and expenses like phone credits.
My nanny is ace and would only want to be generalized as a Filipina nanny - she and the whole community of Filipina nannies believe that they are the best and 9/10 times they are right :-)

I pay for her son's school fees in the Philipinnes which is significantly less than here. She is really wonderful and its a pleasure to do it for her.

Thanks all for your responses. We plan to increase to 350. We also pay for flight back to Philippines, her visa every year. I am also paying her son's school fees but that is separate and nothing to do with this.
As I mentioned in my last post this was not meant to cause any offence to Filipinos or non Filipinos.
Thanks x

Don't forget that its an agencies interest to get the highest salary as there commission is normally the salary multiplied by however many weeks. We found that agencies tend to charge more or say people are paying more than they were in reality.

350 sounds very reasonable if you are covering living expenses etc.

Please may I ask where you found your nanny? As she sounds great! Did you use an agency?

We pay 350pw net and were told by the agency we used this is standard for any live in (5 days a week). Think it may vary between different areas in London but certainly in SW I know this is pretty standard.

I think £350 net is very fair for a live-in nanny housekeeper. Good on you for wanting to hang on to her.

If it helps, I've been speaking to a number of agencies recently who consider £450 to be the "higher end" of a live in salary. Of course, there are a number of families who pay more than this but £350 is apparently about the average.

Can we keep the discussion to the pay level please?

If anyone wants to start a separate thread about nannies of different nationalities then that's is a separate discussion.

This post was a good faith request for information and I don't want it turning into something else.

Thanks everyone!

I think this is a good example of a post where we are all getting a bit carried away without thinking about what we are saying.

1. OP wants to INCREASE the pay of her nanny and wants to make sure it's a fair wage. That's wonderful news and something to be applauded, well done!

2. She wants to make sure that nanny feels valued compared to her friends. From the salary quoted I dont think it's too low agaisnt ANY bench mark and a futher check or balance against her friends is womderful. Again a motive to be applauded, well done again!

3. If people have issues with the title of the post that might be your own prejudices reflected back.

4. Was the OP a bit clumsy? Maybe but to be openly criticised and have words like offensive bandied about is ridiculous.

There are lots of bad things in the world we can fix, this is not one of them

Mo on, nothing to see here!!!

Really? What is it with Nappyvalley always trying to pull someone up and claiming as if the OP is segregating a nationality/race from the rest.

Filipino nannies do that extra bit towards what most nannies do. They tend to be more nanny/housekeepers as opposed to just nannies. It's a fair question to ask about salaries.
