My husband and I moved from Tooting Bec to Furzedown about 18 months ago as we were expecting our first child and I can't recommend it highly enough. It is a real family area with a great park/playground, good local shops, dry cleaners, Aveda hair salon, cafe/deli and a fantastic net group - it has a great sense of community which I didn't expect in London.

Feedback on schools has been good - we're in the catchment for Penwortham although baby will likely go to St Boniface.

There are some downsides to the area including the usual pockets of deprivation leading to minor crimes such as bike theft etc and there is a lot more dog poo here that I have seen in other areas of London but generally a great place to live.

We moved to Furzedown from Abbeville Road about 3 weeks ago and I can't recommend it enough. The neighbours are incredibly friendly, there's great coffee shop/deli on Moyser road, furzedown.net is a great resource (sort of like an online village - people post needing jam jars, loans of running machine, recommendations for gardeners etc... and get them). It's a 20 minute walk to balham, a 15 minute drive to my kids' school in Clapham and a 10 minute walk to Tooting Lido and a great playground .

I have lived in Streatham for nearly ten years and love it too. I live South, near Tooting Common (so nice to be near so much green space) and there are lots of great restaurants and cafes too. I've just posted some info about a free local community festival I am involved in organising www.littlebigpeace.com. If you fancy coming along come and say hi - happy to chat to you about the area and introduce you to local parents too if helpful.

Or just send me a message if I can help in any way.

Very best,

Zoe

Hi.

I live in Streatham and I love it here. The schools are good though I'm not familiar with the school you mentioned. We are near to the commons Streatham and Tooting, the area is under regeneration, new coffee shops and Gastro pubs are popping up. There are plenty of clubs activities for little ones. Great transport links we have three train stations and buses straight into central London.

Streatham is up and Coming.

Hello!
I am thinking of moving house to these areas and was wondering if there was anyone out there who could let me know what they're like. Does anyone have any experience of Penworthan school? Many thanks :)
