Don't be fooled by the name - they do turkeys too! Brilliant quality & service....& you can have it delivered to the front door or office. http://www.goodmansgeese.co.uk/ They are stocked by Moens too if you'd rather pick it up (but why heave a turkey home if you don't have to?!)

Field and flower are amazing. Ex Honeywell guy set it up and the meat is incredible. As previous poster said you can buy online. X

Try Cleavers the Butchers on Old York Rd in the Tonsleys, they supply COPA turkeys http://www.copasturkeys.co.uk/

The staff are great & couldn't be more helpful.

For leftovers, turkey & ham pie, turkey soup, turkey curry, coronation turkey & then stock from the carcass.

Enjoy :)

I always get my turkey from Kelly Bronze online and have not been disappointed. I get my other meat (gammon & pork and stuffing meat) as well as turkey stock etc from Moen's and although I am sure their turkey's would be brilliant the queues are terribly long hence why I go for delivery. I am however going to try Ginger pig the new butcher on Abbeville road as it is more local and having already bought roasting joints from there I don't think I will be disappointed. Good Luck!

Thanks Petal - that sounds exactly like what I was expecting last time. I will be sure to check Moens out next year. Thanks for the recommendation :D

I bought a turkey from a nappy valley butcher (I don't want to name names) and I have to say I was very disappointed.

We ordered a 6kg turkey around end of October for Xmas, for £70. We then received a letter from the butcher in November saying that due to an oversight they had undercharged us for the turkey and we owed them another £20. Having had previous good service for them, we gave them the benefit of the doubt and paid the additional £20.

When we went to collect it on 23rd December, it was absolute chaos in there. I had assumed the turkeys would all be boxed up with order names on ready for collection, but they just had a big pile of turkey's out back. When we were eventually served, they said they only had 8kg turkey's left which were another £30! The shop was too busy to effectively complain, and being 2 days before Xmas we don't have much choice. I've now stopped using this butchers as I was so disappointed over their whole management of the turkey distribution. I understand that they can't guarantee a certain size, but they made it sound as if they were all being given out on a first come first served basis, instead of as ordered.

The point of my moan above was to make sure you know exactly what you're ordering and what will be distributed and collected.

This year I am getting my turkey from a farm I know near where I grew up in Lancashire. They are free range, pretty much organic (although not certified) and I know where it will have come from. Unfortunately, they don't deliver to London (they'd make a killing if they did) but it fits in with our travel plans this year to collect it. This won't work next year, so I shall be following this thread with interest!

Try Field & Flower. I think they now actually advertise on the 'What's On' section of Nappy Valley, but I came across them via our school as F&F run a meat box scheme with Honeywell. We have brought from them for about a year and I must say the food is delicious, totally unlike anything from a supermarket or I have brought locally; Doves et al; plus, unlike Doves, they're really lovely to deal with!! I would thoroughly recommend 08456 899 077

Best place to buy a Christmas turkey!!

by mrs_pavlova » Mon Nov 11, 2013 5:33 pm

I know, bonfire night is only just over, but I'm trying to get organised :D as I'm hosting Christmas this year.

Anyone have any idea where the best place to buy/order a turkey from around here? I've bought before from Doves, which was very good, but I'm open to suggestions for good quality and good value. Also, any ideas from the chefs among you how large a turkey to buy for 8 adults, to ensure loads left for leftover recipes (yum!)

thanks!!!
